BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – After leading six times and hitting 10 three-pointers in the first half, the Tigers couldn't keep up with WKU for a full 40 minutes as the Hilltoppers won the exhibition 91-66 Tuesday night at the E.A. Diddle Arena.
CU shot 41.2 percent from the field in the first half and 43.5 percent from three-point land.
Hagen Tyler hit four threes in the half including a buzzer beater at the end of the half from about 30 feet to end the half with 14 of his 19 for the game in the first 20 minutes.
Tyler finished with a double-double with his 19 points and 11 rebounds, with the 11 boards being the most he's had in his CU career. The career high in rebounds will not go towards his official statistics because the game was an exhibition.
Stephaun Adams also shot very well in the first half in limited time, scoring 11 points on 4-of-5 from the field and 3-of-4 from three. He only played nine minutes in the opening period due to being in foul trouble, picking up two early fouls before re-entering the game late in the half then committing an offensive foul late for his third of the first half.
After finishing the first half on a 6-0 run, the Tigers entered the break down 47-39 but WKU's length and athleticism took over in the second half. Switching to a half court zone trap, the Hilltoppers stymied the CU offense to 27 points on 31 percent shooting and 25 percent from three.
Leading the way for WKU offensively was Josh Anderson, who led all scorers with 22 points and added six steals and five assists. The Hilltoppers had three other players in double figures in Jared Savage, Desean Murray and Charles Bassey with Bassey adding 11 rebounds for his own double-double.
The Tigers will get back into regular season play this weekend as they head to Montgomery, Ala. for the Faulkner University Classic as they will take on Voorhees College on Friday and Point University on Saturday.
