CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – From the opening tip to the final buzzer, Campbellsville men's basketball was in full control of their game against Alice Lloyd College Tuesday night at the Powell Athletic Center.
The Tigers shot 55.1 percent from the field with almost identical percentages in each half, 55.3 percent in the first half and 55.0 percent in the second half. Finishing the night with a season-best 48.3 percent from three-point land, CU made 14 threes behind four from
Hagen Tyler and three each from
Stephaun Adams and
Jacob King.
King started off the game hot for the Tigers, scoring eight of CU's first 11 points in the first few minutes of the game. King finished the night shooting 8-for-11 (73%) from the field and 3-for-3 from distance to lead the team in both shooting categories Tuesday night.
Tyler led Campbellsville in scoring with 21 in 30 minutes, shooting 7-for-11 (64%) from the field and 4-for-7 from three.
Adams stuffed the stat sheet for the Tigers, nearing a double-double, finishing with 11 points and nine rebounds while adding seven assists and two steals.
The Eagles didn't have an answer for CU center
Andrew Smith the entire game as the big man finished with 18 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three blocked shots on the night.
Since the Tigers' first basket in the first minute after trailing 2-0, CU never relinquished the lead again for the rest of the game. Campbellsville feasted on the 17 ALC turnovers in the game, scoring 25 points off of those turnovers compared to the eight points the Eagles scored off of the 12 CU turnovers.
The last two minutes of the first half and the first seven minutes of the second half was where CU really pulled away from Alice Lloyd. After the Eagles pulled within 10 at 48-38, the Tigers finished the half on a 7-0 run then started the second half with a 20-8 run to jump out to a 29-point lead.
Scoring was well spread out for the Tigers as all but one player that saw the floor scored for CU and six players reached double figures in the game.
Moving to 5-0 for the first time since 2014-15, Campbellsville men's basketball will now get ready for the Lou Cunningham Classic hosted by the Tigers this Friday and Saturday as they host Oakwood University and Philander Smith College.
