Early run carries Tigers by Oakwood in 86-60 win to start the Lou Cunningham Classic

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – A 29-point lead after a 33-4 start in the first 12 minutes of the game is what propelled Tiger basketball over Oakwood University Friday afternoon at the Powell Athletic Center.

A first half that had two CU double figure scorers in Andrew Smith (12) and Stephaun Adams (11) as the Tigers went into the break, up 44-18. Jacob King was a true facilitator for the Tigers in the first half with five assists on the 17 made baskets for Campbellsville.

Adams was strong for the Tigers in the second half, scoring 16 points to finish with a game-high of 27 for the game on 10-for-20 shooting and 6-for-13 from three pointers.

Smith finished a rebound short of a double-double after only scoring two points in the second half, finishing the game with 14 points and nine rebounds.

The Tigers started the second half a little rough as the Ambassadors climbed the score back to 59-40, making it a 22-15 start to the second half for Oakwood.

Campbellsville only trailed for 17 seconds in the game and the score was tied for only 37 seconds as the Tigers led for 39 minutes and six seconds.

Deion Evans came up a basket and a rebound short of double-double for the second-straight game as he continues to stuff the stat sheet for CU early on in the 2018-19 season.

Ronald Taylor is also turned out to be a key contributor for the Tigers after moving to his bench role upon the return of Smith back to the lineup. Taylor was one of the four CU players in double figures with 13 points of the bench with a very efficient day of 5-for-7 shooting from the field, hitting two of his three shots from distance.

Tiger basketball will return to action tomorrow to face Philander Smith College at 4:00 p.m. ET after the Panthers face Lindsey Wilson in game two of the Lou Cunningham Classic.
