Reigning National Champs get 2018-19 women's wrestling season underway tonight at Cumberlands

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — The 2018-19 season gets underway tonight for Campbellsville University women's wrestling, as the Lady Tigers travel to rival University of the Cumberlands.

The 2018 reigning national champions have to fill a few spots after four-time WCWA National Champion, Kayla Miracle, graduated, and Charlotte Fowler, an All-American and third-place finisher in last year's championship, is traveling with USA Wrestling in Romania.

The Lady Tigers do return 2017 WCWA National Champion Andribeth Rivera (130 lbs.) to the lineup after missing last season. Also, Mariah Harris, a 2018 runner-up, returns at 170 lbs., while Alexia Foca and McKayla Campbell are back after fourth-place finishes at 143 and 101 lbs., respectively.

Koral Sugiyama (123 lbs.), a U.S. National Team member joins Fowler and Harris as multi-year All-Americans returning this year. The Lady Tigers finished with a total of 11 All-Americans last season.

Campbellsville vs. Cumberlands last season:

The Lady Tigers defeated University of the Cumberlands a total of four times last season.
In the Cumberlands Duals, Campbellsville won 44-1 and 35-11.
The two teams squared off in the Beast of the East on Dec. 15 and CU knocked off the 10^th-ranked Patriots, 35-11.
In the NWCA National Duals, CU sealed the season sweep over Cumberlands with a 37-9 win.

Lady Tiger wrestling has become one of the best:

The individual titles last year for Kayla Miracle and Grace Bullen are the 25th and 26th national championships for student-athletes in CU history.
In the five years CU has had a women's wrestling program, the Lady Tigers have totaled eight individual national champions - the most for any CU team.
McKayla Campbell (101), Katlyn Pizzo (109), Charlotte Fowler (109), Steffanie Hampton (123), Koral Sugiyama (123), Grace Bullen (130), Shelby Hall (130), Kayla Miracle (136), Alexia Foca (143), Mariah Harris (170) and Kaitlyn Hill (191) earned All-American honors last year.
