Big second half pushes Tigers over Philander Smith 104-82 to finish Lou Cunningham Classic

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – After heading into the half up 49-42, Campbellsville men's basketball outscored Philander Smith 55-40 in the second half to win 104-82 in CU's final game of the Lou Cunningham Classic.

Andrew Smith dominated for the Tigers with his first double-double of the season as the big man scored 28 points and grabbed 17 rebounds. 14 of Smith's 17 rebounds came in the second half and the senior also added six assists.

The exclamation point of the game came at the 2:46 mark when Deion Evans finished a lay-up while getting fouled. But the foul was called intentional so Evans went to the line for two free throw, hitting both. The Tigers kept possession as Hagen Tyler hit a three off the inbounds play for a seven-point possession for CU.

The Tigers started the game on absolute fire, hitting their first nine shots of the game, jumping out to a 21-10 lead. The first miss of the game came at the 14:45 mark of the first half.

Evans went off in the second half, scoring 11 of his 14 points in the second period of play. Tyler and Stephaun Adams were the other CU players in double figures as Adams finished with 25 and Tyler dropped 23.

CU was in the sharing mood throughout the game as the team assisted on 24 of the 38 total baskets made in the game. Seven Tigers recorded an assist in the game led by eight from Adams.

Even though the Tigers held the lead at the half, both teams hit the same amount of field goals, 18, and the same amount of three-pointers with six each. Campbellsville essentially led by the seven free throws they made on 12 attempts in the first half as the Panthers were only awarded one free throw in the half.

CU moves to 7-0 to start the season as they will host another two-day tournament during Thanksgiving weekend. The Tigers will host the Campbellsville Classic on Friday and Saturday Nov. 23-24 when they host Berkeley College and Allen University.
