Walters records first-career hat trick; Tigers win third NCCAA Mid-East Regional title

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Troy Walters netted his first hat trick of his short Tiger career and led Campbellsville men's soccer to a 4-0 win over Oakland City in the Mid-East Regional Championship.

The title is the third in Campbellsville men's soccer history as the Tigers earn an automatic bid to the NCCAA National Championship which is scheduled for November 26-December 1 in Kissimmee, Florida.

The Tigers dominated the pitch with 20 shots compared to five for Oakland City.

Walters put the Tigers on the board in the 25thminute after Connor Grant chest-bumped a pass just outside the box and Walters finished on an open net.

That's where the score would stay after the first 45 minutes as Oakland City's Walid Birrou Essafi finished with four saves and Campbellsville's Owen Stott denied his lone shot against.

The second half was a different story, especially the final 25 minutes. In the 75th, Walters finished on a penalty kick and just 1:30 later, Lucas Batistela centered a pass into the box for Walters to put CU ahead, 3-0.

In the 83rd, Tom Edge scored his second goal of the season off a Luca Pugliese corner kick.

The win pushes the Tigers record to 11-7 overall entering the NCCAA National Championship. More information will be released next week on pairings and pools.
