CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The largest margin of victory for the Campbellsville men's basketball team was how the Thanksgiving weekend ended for the Tigers in their 116-72 win over Allen University Saturday afternoon at the Powell Athletic Center.
CU's dominance was led by their starters as all five Tiger starters scored in double figures. The group of
Jacob King,
Stephaun Adams,
Hagen Tyler,
Deion Evans and
Andrew Smith combined for 100 of the 116 points against the Yellow Jackets.
The starters were led by a career-high 30 points from Adams who shot 50 percent from the field (10-for-20) and 54 percent from three (7-for-13). Tyler recorded his third-straight 20-point game, scoring 21 and moving into seventh all-time on the CU scoring list.
Evans played one of his better games of the season with his third double-double of the season at 17 points and 10 rebounds. The 17 points are a career high for the forward from Philadelphia, Pa. as he threw down a couple of alley-oop dunks that energized the Tigers.
The Tigers started hot from the field and from three to start the game. Adams, Tyler and Evans all nailed 3-pointers to start and Campbellsville began 6-of-6 from behind the three-point line.
In the first eight minutes of action, Campbellsville was 11-of-13 overall (85%), while Evans and Adams both had nine points and Smith had eight on the inside of the paint. During that same stretch, CU held Allen University in check by hitting only 37 percent (7-of-19).
After heading into halftime up 56-41, it was all Tigers in the second half as they outscored the Yellow Jackets 60-31 in the second 20 minutes of play. The second half was capped off by a couple of reserves hitting nice shots as
Sam Weining hit a layup while getting fouled with
Shane King nailing a three and hitting the final shot of the game with a running one-hander with the clock at 1.2 seconds.
Weining played 17 quality minutes for head coach
Brent Vernon Saturday afternoon scoring seven points and adding seven rebounds. Four of those rebounds came on the offensive glass created much needed second chance opportunities for CU.
The Tigers move to 9-0 to start the 2018-19 season with six games remaining in their non-conference schedule. CU will host two games next week at the Powell Athletic Center as they welcome East-West University Tuesday night before Central Pennsylvania College next Saturday.
