CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The 99-76 final score that saw CU win over East-West University was not indicative of how close the game was throughout.
The Phantoms pushed Campbellsville to their limits at times despite not bringing the score into single digits for much of the game. The Tigers 23-point margin of victory marked their largest lead in the game.
The Tigers were led by
Hagen Tyler who dropped 27 points on 11-for-16 shooting from the field and 5-for-7 from three-point land. Tyler broke the 20-point barrier for the fourth-straight game with his points being very balanced between the first and second half with 12 in the first and 15 in the second.
Over a fourth of the points scored by CU Tuesday night were scored from the free-throw line as the Tigers went 25-for-28 (89.3%) from the charity stripe in the game. Only two players missed free throws in the game for Campbellsville and
Stephaun Adams went a perfect 10-for-10 from the line.
The high quantity of free throws for the Tigers were mainly in the second half as they shot 20 due in large part to CU getting in the bonus with over 12 minutes left in the half. The fouls from East-West came from their aggressive defense that pressured the Tigers all game but the referees got them for 14 fouls in the second half.
Other than Tyler's 27 and Adams' 18, CU had two other double figures scorers as
Andrew Smith scored 21 and
Jacob King added 12. Smith recorded his third double-double of the season with 11 rebounds and King led the way for the Tigers with six assists, five in the first half.
The scoring from the Phantoms was very balanced with only two players scoring in double figures as Naija Chandler and Eli Gibson scored 11 each. 11 players in total scored for East-West and 32 of their 76 points came off the bench.
The Tigers will finish up their seven-game home stand as they host Central Pennsylvania College on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET. They will then play their first game away from the Powell Athletic Center when they play Carver College at the Lindsey Wilson Classic in Columbia, Ky. on Dec. 7.
