Lady Tiger volleyball bounces back with sweep victory over Piedmont International at NCCAA’s

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. – After a heartbreaking five-set loss in their first match of the day against Southwestern Christian University, CU women's volleyball made quick work of Piedmont International University in a 3-0 sweep.
 
The Lady Tigers won the three sets by smaller margins (25-13, 25-17 and 25-23) as the match went on but that didn't stop them from earning the sweep.
 
Campbellsville was led by freshman outside hitter Sonia Flendrich, who was the only attacker in the match to reach double-digit kills where her total of 11. Cassidy Mull had a great night percentage-wise as she recorded kills on seven of her 10 total attacks for a .600 hitting percentage with one error.
 
Lady Tiger setter Paige Merrick also hit for a .600 percentage recording three kills in five attacks while recording 31 assists on the 40 CU kills and serving for eight aces. Combining her kills, aces and assists Merrick had a hand in 42 of the 55 points CU earned in the match.
 
After a 20-kill match in their loss to Southwestern Christian, Katie Johnson recorded four kills in the opening set against PIU and just two more the rest of the match after only playing two of the three sets.
 
CU will have one more Pool Play match remaining as they will play the top-seed Biola University who is already 2-0 in Pool Play with wins over Southwestern Christian and Piedmont International. The Lady Tigers will need to win to have a chance to move on to the semi-finals that will be played later on Friday.
