CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – With Mid-South Conference regular season play finished for the 2018 season, Campbellsville women's volleyball will finish their regular season Monday night against Brescia University.
Lady Tiger volleyball will celebrate senior night prior to the match against the Bearcats. The five players who will be honored are,
Cassidy Mull,
Ashlyn Flock, Katie Johnson,
Julia Fonseca and
Maria Coelho
Coelho is one of the most accomplished outside hitters in CU women's volleyball history with 1,323 kills to date. That number is good for sixth all time in Lady Tiger volleyball history, where she will likely stand when her career is finished. In her career, Coelho has won two MSC Player of the Week awards in her second season (2016) and also earned NCCAA All-American, MSC Second Team All-Conference, NCCAA Scholar Athlete and MSC Academic All-Conference honors last year.
Fonseca, an imposing figure in the middle of the CU formation standing at 6'4" in here four-year career. To date, she has recorded 964 kills in four years wearing a Lady Tiger uniform with her season-high coming in 2016 where she scored 353 kills as a sophomore. As a middle blocker, Fonseca averaged .68 blocks per set, with 335 total in her career. Combining kills, blocks and service aces recorded in the stats, Fonseca has totaled 1,236 points as a Lady Tiger.
Johnson's hitting stats might rival Coelho's had she played a four-year career at Campbellsville. After transferring from Northwest College after her freshman year, Johnson has recorded 786 kills in three seasons with her best season coming in her junior season of 2017 where she had 310 kills. Mostly playing full rotations, Johnson has also made a total of 978 digs in her career with 390 coming in 2017 for her most in a season.
Mull has played in 67 contests through her three years on the team, playing in 155 sets. She has recorded 125 kills in those three seasons with her season-high coming in her freshman season where she recorded 66 kills. The left-handed swinger has played her role as a reserve well throughout her time, being able to step in when her name is called.
Flock has served multiple roles within the Lady Tiger lineup of defensive specialist, setter and specialist server. Her signature moment as a setter came this season against Fisk University where she recorded a career high 26 assists in the Lady Tigers' sweep victory. Coming in to serve, Flock has recorded 52 service aces in her three seasons, with 25 last year and 24 so far this year, proving to be a weapon late in the current season for CU.
The Lady Tigers are coming off of a week that saw them earn their ninth win in a row at Cumberland University last Tuesday 3-1 and their MSC finale against Lindsey Wilson get cancelled due to unsafe playing conditions after a leak from the ceiling was created by heavy rains last Thursday.
After senior night, CU women's volleyball will start postseason play on Thursday at the Mid-South Conference tournament where they will be the #2 seed as they face the #7 Shawnee State at 6 p.m. ET Thursday night.
