Lady Tiger Basketball heads to New Orleans for MSC/SSAC Challenge at Loyola University

NEW ORLEANS — The Mid-South Conference and Southern States Athletic Conference Challenge is entering its third year and the women's tournament has traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana for the 2018-19 season. 

Campbellsville will face a familiar foe, University of Mobile, which it has faced twice in the challenge before, but the Lady Tigers are also taking on a newer opponent, Loyola University. 

CU's first matchup will feature its first NAIA Top 25 opponent this season in No. 17 Loyola University. Tipoff for the opener is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET on Friday, Nov. 9. The second game will feature the Lady Tigers and University of Mobile Rams on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET. 
 
Fans can tune into the CU Sports Network and Zach Clements is filling in for Matt Payton this weekend. Each broadcast begins 15 minutes before the scheduled tipoff. Also, live video is provided at the link above. 
 

MSC/SSAC Challenge History:
  • Overall in The Challenge, CU has a 5-0 record. 
  • The Lady Tigers hosted The Challenge in 2016-17 and played in last season's round robin tourney in McKenzie, Tennessee as Bethel University held hosting responsibilities.  
  • The Lady Tigers have faced Mobile, Bethel, Blue Mountain College and Martin Methodist in the five previous games. 
  • University of Pikeville is the second Mid-South Conference representative this season and will also play Loyola and Mobile.
Series Facts vs. Loyola:
  • Campbellsville and Loyola are meeting for the fifth time in program history. 
  • The series is tied 2-2. 
  • While playing at Loyola, the Lady Tigers are 1-1. 
  • In the last meeting on Jan. 1, 2010, Campbellsville won 83-73. In that game, Whitney Ballinger scored 40 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. 
  • The 40 points for Ballinger was the first 40-point game in her career and the second that season, as she scored 48 against Oklahoma City in the NAIA National Tournament - which is a Lady Tiger and NAIA record. 
  • The first meeting came on Nov. 11, 1996 with the Lady Tigers winning, 85-50.
Series Facts vs. Mobile:
  • Campbellsville and Mobile are meeting for the eighth time in history. 
  • The Lady Tigers hold a 6-1 record - the lone loss came on Nov. 5, 2004. CU lost 75-70. 
  • CU and Mobile are meeting for the second time in the MSC/SSAC Challenge. The first time came in 2016 when the Lady Tigers won, 65-49. 
  • The very first meeting came on Dec. 31, 1998 with the Lady Tigers winning, 62-60.
