Quick start for No. 7 Lindsey Wilson ends Tigers' chance of Mid-South Conference title

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Lindsey Wilson soccer had Campbellsville's number on Thursday in the Mid-South Conference Semifinal Rounds as the Blue Raiders sealed a sweep over Campbellsville with a 3-0 win on the men's side.

The win moves Lindsey Wilson into the MSC finals and they will play Cumberland University for the title. The loss ends Campbellsville's run at a NAIA title, but the Tigers will now compete for an NCCAA Championship and host the Mid-East Region next weekend.

Tonight, the Blue Raiders scored twice in the first five minutes and Campbellsville could not recover. In the fourth minute, Nicholas Marcano found the ball at his feet and finished amongst a crowd and in the fifth minute, Ranier De Jesus finished a solo run to the top of the box and finished far post past Owen Stott

In the 18thminute, Campbellsville just missed an opportunity to cut the lead in half. Troy Walters, who has five goals on the year and is tied for the team lead, has a shot ricocheted off the crossbar.

The Tigers also had a chance with nine minutes left but Lucas Batistela, who scored twice in the quarterfinal round, had a shot saved by Lindsey Wilson's William Diaz.

In the second half, the score stayed 2-2 until the 87thminute when De Jesus notched his second goal of the night on a freekick.

Campbellsville finished with 10 shots – three on goal - while Lindsey Wilson had 13 shots and seven on frame.

A complete preview of the NCCAA Mid-East Regional will be posted next week.
