Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Jordan Alves

Lake and Calbert both have career nights in Lady Tigers' 97-69 win over the Virgin Islands

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Freshman Lexy Lake had a coming out party scoring a career-high 17 points and splashing five 3-point baskets in the Lady Tigers' 97-69 win over University of the Virgin Islands on Tuesday night.

Lake matched Jordan Doram with team-high honors as the Big Fella scored a season-high 17 points on 5-of-8 shooting and hit all seven free throws.

Lake has hit a 3-pointer in every game she's seen action in this season. In the last three, she's 10-of-19 from deep and 14-of-29 on the season - good for a team-high 48 percent.

The triples came in bunches tonight, especially from the sharp shooting freshman. Lake hit four 3s in the opening quarter and hit a pair of free throws for 14 points. She nailed her fourth triple with 55 seconds left in the frame and ended the quarter scoring 46 percent of the Lady Tigers' points (14 of 30).

CU's scoring didn't start on a good note as the Lady Tiger hit 3-of-13 to begin. That luck changed in the final few minutes as six of the next nine attempts found the bottom of the net and CU lead, 30-20.

Starting the second quarter, Madison Kaiser joined the party and banged back-to-back 3s to extend a Campbellsville run to 17-5 and give the Lady Tigers a 38-22 lead.

With 2:28 left in the opening quarter, Campbellsville led by just four points, 21-17. The final 12:28 was all Campbellsville as the Lady Tigers went on a 36-17 run and led 57-34 at halftime.

Coming out of the break, the Virgin Islands outscored Campbellsville 14-9 at the first media timeout. Then Doram and Lake turned it around for CU. Doram hit a pair of free throws and Lake nailed her fifth 3-pointer to push Campbellsville's lead, 73-49.

Shyla Calbert and Caitlin Hall both had stellar nights passing the ball. Both dished out seven assists in the win, while Calbert's mark is a career-high and Hall's seven keeps her average at 7.4 assists per game. Overall the Lady Tigers had 27 assists on the 33 baskets.

In addition to Lake and Doram, Madison Faulkner scored 12 points in 16 minutes of play before fouling out in the third quarter. Kaiser finished with 11 points, while Alexus Calhoun also matched her season-high with 10 points.

No. 5 Campbellsville (7-1) and the Virgin Islands (4-10) will get back in the Powell Athletic Center at 6 p.m. ET on Wednesday night. Air time begins at 5:45 on the CU Sports Network.
