Lady Tigers and Virgin Islands meet again on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. in Powell Athletic Center

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Lady Tiger basketball gets back in action tonight against a similar opponent – the Virgin Islands – for the second straight night. 
 
Tipoff between the Lady Tigers and Lady Buccaneers is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET in the Powell Athletic Center. 
 
Fans can tune into Matt Payton on the CU Sports Network starting at 5:45 p.m. for pregame coverage on radio and TV.  
 
The Virgin Islands is 4-10 entering the week and has lost nine of the last 10 games. The Lady Bucs lone win in that span came against Carlow College, 74-62. 
 
The Virgin Islands has a few common opponents with CU. The Lady Bucs lost to Lindsey Wilson, 78-43, and University of the Cumberlands, 53-43.


CU moves to No. 5 in NAIA Poll
  • The Lady Tigers earned 194 voting points and moved from third to fifth after dropping its lone game of the year to Columbia College last week. 
  • CU is one of three Mid-South Conference programs ranked in the Top 17 in the country. Shawnee State has started the year 8-2 – dropping both games in the NAIA Invitational after Thanksgiving and slipped from second to No. 7. Lindsey Wilson College is 6-3 to begin the year and moved down four spots from 13thto No. 17. Georgetown College is the lone MSC program in the receiving votes category with three points.
  • Vanguard University locked in the No. 1 spot for the second time in a row. The Lions are one of the top three schools that have been ranked No. 1 the longest in NAIA history and are working their way up one poll at a time only seven behind the current leader in Union University.
  • The Lions and Lady Tigers are joined in the Top 5 by Freed-Hardeman, Wayland Baptist and Columbia College. 
 
BANG! Lexy Lake has stellar night:
  • Freshman Lexy Lake had a coming out party scoring a career-high 17 points and splashing five 3-point baskets in the Lady Tigers' 97-69 win over UVI on Tuesday night. 
  • Lake matched Jordan Doram with team-high honors as the Big Fella scored a season-high 17 points on 5-of-8 shooting and hit all seven free throws. 
  • Lake has hit a 3-pointer in every game she's seen action in this season. In the last three, she's 10-of-19 from deep and 14-of-29 on the season - good for a team-high 48 percent. 
  • Her 48% average is also good for 14th in the NAIA rankings. 
 
Calbert playing BIG TIME minute:
  • Every coach will tell you that a good point guard is the key to any team... Well Campbellsville has one of the best in Caitlin Hall but she has a great back-up in Shyla Calbert.
  • Calbert has played in all eight games and, like Hall, a passing machine.
  • She dished out a career-high seven assists last night in the 97-69 win over UVI.
  • She's averaging 2.6 assists per game in only about 13 minutes per game.
  • Calbert is also a great on-ball defender. She has 14 steals and has added a complimentary jump shot to her arsenal this season.
 
Lady Tigers roll past Virgin Islands last night:
  • Freshman Lexy Lake had a coming out party scoring a career-high 17 points and splashing five 3-point baskets in the Lady Tigers' 97-69 win over University of the Virgin Islands on Tuesday night. 
  • Lake matched Jordan Doram with team-high honors as the Big Fella scored a season-high 17 points on 5-of-8 shooting and hit all seven free throws. 
  • Lake has hit a 3-pointer in every game she's seen action in this season. In the last three, she's 10-of-19 from deep and 14-of-29 on the season - good for a team-high 48 percent. 
  • The triples came in bunches tonight, especially from the sharp shooting freshman. Lake hit four 3s in the opening quarter and hit a pair of free throws for 14 points. She nailed her fourth triple with 55 seconds left in the frame and ended the quarter scoring 46 percent of the Lady Tigers' points (14 of 30). 
  • CU's scoring didn't start on a good note as the Lady Tiger hit 3-of-13 to begin. That luck changed in the final few minutes as six of the next nine attempts found the bottom of the net and CU lead, 30-20. 
  • Starting the second quarter, Madison Kaiser joined the party and banged back-to-back 3s to extend a Campbellsville run to 17-5 and give the Lady Tigers a 38-22 lead. 
  • With 2:28 left in the opening quarter, Campbellsville led by just four points, 21-17. The final 12:28 was all Campbellsville as the Lady Tigers went on a 36-17 run and led 57-34 at halftime. 
  • Coming out of the break, the Virgin Islands outscored Campbellsville 14-9 at the first media timeout. Then Doram and Lake turned it around for CU. Doram hit a pair of free throws and Lake nailed her fifth 3-pointer to push Campbellsville's lead, 73-49. 
  • Shyla Calbert and Caitlin Hall both had stellar nights passing the ball. Both dished out seven assists in the win, while Calbert's mark is a career-high and Hall's seven keeps her average at 7.4 assists per game. Overall the Lady Tigers had 27 assists on the 33 baskets. 
  • In addition to Lake and Doram, Madison Faulkner scored 12 points in 16 minutes of play before fouling out in the third quarter. Kaiser finished with 11 points, while Alexus Calhoun also matched her season-high with 10 points.
