Lady Tigers aim for another national run in 2027

| By:
CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Following another trip to the NAIA National Championship Quarterfinals and a 24-8 finish in 2025-26, the Campbellsville University women's basketball team enters the 2026-27 season with a familiar goal: competing for Mid-South Conference and national championships.

The Lady Tigers once again established themselves among the NAIA's elite last season, earning the program's nation-leading 34th appearance in the NAIA National Championship before advancing to the national quarterfinals in Sioux City, Iowa. Campbellsville finished the year ranked among the NAIA's most explosive teams offensively, averaging more than 80 points per game while pairing that production with one of the nation's most disruptive defenses.

Although the Lady Tigers must replace several decorated seniors, including All-MSC performers Whitney Hay and Tyra Flowers, Campbellsville returns a talented young nucleus highlighted by junior guard Dea Bradley, a Third-Team NAIA All-American and First-Team All-Mid-South Conference selection.

Bradley established herself as one of the MSC's premier players a season ago, providing a consistent scoring presence while helping lead Campbellsville to another deep postseason run. She scored 388 regular-season points, shot 45 percent from the field, dished out 65 assists, and added 45 steals.

"We return a really solid group of players this season," associate head coach Miranda Denney said. "Dea Bradley headlines that group. Dea was a 3rd-Team All-American last season and a huge offensive spark. She will only get better as she continues to grow and develop her game in all aspects."

Bradley is expected to be joined in the backcourt by returning standouts Hallie Allen and Lainey Johnson.

"Also returning in the backcourt is junior Hallie Allen," Denney said. "Hallie is the glue that holds our team together. She is an unbelievable leader and competitor. Hallie has worked hard at her game, is in unbelievable shape, and is poised for a breakout season."

Johnson emerged late in her freshman campaign and is expected to assume an expanded role this season.

"Those same sentiments could be applied to sophomore Lainey Johnson," Denney said. "Lainey started for the Lady Tigers late in the season as a freshman. She gives our team offensive firepower and a deep three-point threat. Lainey worked hard this summer and has gone to another level with her game. She will contend for some big-time awards this season."

While Campbellsville returns much of its core, the roster features just one newcomer in freshman post player Cariann Williams.

"The only incoming player on our roster this season is freshman Cariann Williams," Denney said. "Cariann had an unbelievable prep career at Edmonson County High School. She was a triple-double machine in high school and broke multiple records at ECHS. We are expecting big things out of this 6-foot-3 freshman and know that she will be a huge piece of the puzzle for us next season and in the years to come."

The Lady Tigers also enter the year with a roster makeup that differs from recent seasons. Campbellsville will field one of its youngest teams in years, but also one of its tallest.

"We are a young team," Denney said. "We have no seniors on our roster this season other than student assistant Reece Estep. This is also the most height we have had on our roster in a very long time. We have two players who stand at 6-foot-3, and four players over 6 feet tall."

That combination of youth, size, and returning experience has created optimism throughout the preseason.

"This group, as a whole, works as hard as any group to come through our program," Denney said. "They came onto campus in great shape and have done an amazing job throughout our preseason training. They go hard and push one another. We love the grit and competitiveness of this group. They genuinely want to get better, and they work hard to do so every day."

Campbellsville will also benefit from a significant addition to the coaching staff. Former NCAA Division I head coach Matilda Mossman joins the Lady Tigers after leading programs at Tulsa, Kansas State, and Arkansas.

"We have added a new coach to our staff this season," Denney said. "While she is new to us, she is certainly not new to the coaching profession. Coach Matilda Mossman joins our staff after retiring from the University of Tulsa in 2021. Coach Mossman is a Campbellsville resident who served as head coach at three major Division I schools: Tulsa, Kansas State, and Arkansas. Coach Mossman brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to us. We are over the moon excited to bring her into our program and expect her to have a huge impact on our success."

The challenge awaiting the Lady Tigers will be substantial. Campbellsville's schedule once again features one of the nation's toughest conference slates, complemented by non-conference matchups against programs with national tournament pedigrees.

"We are playing a very tough schedule this season," Denney said. "Our conference schedule alone will be a gauntlet, but we will also be playing several National Tournament teams throughout our non-conference schedule."

Despite the graduation losses, Campbellsville enters 2026-27 with many of the traits that have defined the program's sustained success under head coach Ginger High Colvin: high expectations, defensive intensity, and a roster capable of developing throughout the season.

With an All-American leading the way, an experienced returning backcourt, a promising freshman addition, and one of the program's most physically imposing rosters in recent memory, the Lady Tigers will seek to continue their tradition of competing among the NAIA's best while pursuing another conference title and national tournament run.
