KINGSPORT, Tenn. – The Lady Tigers racked up 37 points during the first day of the Mid-South Conference Championships at the Kingsport Aquatics Center on Thursday night.
Brooklynn Friel earned the lone individual points for Campbellsville, while the Lady Tigers picked up 32 points combined from the 200-yard medley relay and the 800-yard freestyle relay.
The first points of the championship for Campbellsville came in the 200-yard medley relay where the team of
Faith Hyde,
Morgan Bryant, Friel and
Chelsie VanWhy finished in 2:01.75 to hit the national cut and place seventh overall.
Friel was the lone Lady Tiger to qualify for the finals in the 500-yard freestyle prelims. She placed 10th with a time of 5:36.87 and just missed the national bonus cut, while qualifying for the B finals.
In the finals of the 500-yard freestyle, Friel jumped up two spots to place eighth overall and finished second in the B finals with a time of 5:30.32, which hit the national bonus cut.
Kate Bouldin, VanWhy and
Olivia Schneider also competed in the 500-yard freestyle prelims, where the trio finished consecutively in 16th, 17th and 18th.
Lexie Upton and Bryant competed in the 200-yard individual medley where Upton placed 17th with a time of 2:26.50, followed by Bryant in 18th after touching the wall in 1:42.82.
The 50-yard freestyle featured
Irune Capri (27.78),
Lindsey Buckman (28.97) and
Autumn Turner (31.84) competing for Campbellsville when the trio finished just outside the top 20.
To cap off the first day of competition, the Lady Tigers placed sixth in the 800-yard freestyle as Friel, Bouldin, Schneider and Hyde finished in 8:49.54.
University of the Cumberlands leads the championship with 159 points followed by Lindsey Wilson College with 117 points.
Day two of the Mid-South Conference Championships begins at 10 a.m. ET on Friday morning with preliminary heats, followed by the finals at 5:30 p.m. ET.
