CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The 20th-ranked Campbellsville baseball team hits the road for the first time in 2018 as it travels to Hattiesburg, Mississippi to face No. 6 William Carey University and No. 25 Webber International University on Friday and Saturday.
The Tigers enter the week with a record of 1-1 after splitting their season-opening doubleheader against Taylor University on Friday. Campbellsville dropped the first game of the day against the Trojans, 7-3, but rebounded with a 6-2 victory in game two.
Tyler Deason was the lone Tiger to record a hit in both games of the doubleheader and went a perfect 3-for-3 on the day, while reaching base in all five plate appearances. Deason singled in the bottom of the ninth to load the bases in game one, but Campbellsville could not capitalize. In game two, Deason went 2-for-2 and drove in a pair of runs for the Tigers.
On the mound, Campbellsville allowed 12 walks and hit a pair of batters during the first day of action.
Logan Roberts earned the win in game two of the doubleheader after tossing five innings, allowing one run on four hits and striking out six batters. In game one,
Mikey Hooper allowed three hits and two runs during his 4-1/3 innings of work.
Parker Loutensock came out of the bullpen during the second game of the doubleheader and threw three innings allowing just a hit and an unearned run. Loutensock also notched four strikeouts in his Campbellsville debut.
William Carey comes into the weekend with a record of 5-1 and took two of three games at home against Lindsey Wilson College last week. The lone loss of the season for the Crusaders came in the second game of the series against the Blue Raiders, 7-0. Spencer Cayten leads William Carey with a .462 average, while Marcus Buckley leads the way with 10 hits and four runs batted in.
On the mound, the Crusaders have notched a team ERA of 2.52 and Dylan Spiers is one of three pitchers who have not given up an earned run.
Webber International is 2-7 this season and dropped its last three games to Southeastern University to open its conference season. Manny Rodriguez has paced the Warriors with 11 hits and seven RBIs. Rodriguez comes into the weekend with a slugging percentage of .618.
The pitching staff for Webber International has struggled out of the gate and allowed the opposition to hit .306 at the plate and 63 runs through eight games.
This coming weekend, the Tigers face Webber International at 4 p.m. ET, followed by a 7 p.m. ET contest against the host Crusaders on Friday night. Saturday features Campbellsville facing William Carey at 1 p.m. ET and then Webber International at 4 p.m. ET.
