Faulkner matches career-high; Lady Tigers complete road schedule with 67-56 win over UPIKE

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — Third-ranked Campbellsville turned University of Pikeville over a season-high 32 times and dominated the paint to get back on the winning ways, 67-56.

Sophomore Madison Faulkner once again led the Lady Tigers (24-4, 10-2 MSC) by matching her career-high 23 points on 8-of-13 shooting. Jordan Doram was right behind with 14 points on 4-of-5 from the floor and 6-of-8 from the free throw line. Faulkner was 7-of-8 from the charity stripe.

That was a huge bright spot for the Lady Tigers – the free throw shooting. Campbellsville hit 21-of-24 (87.5 percent)

UPIKE (13-15, 4-8 MSC) surpassed their season-high in turnovers, as the Bears totaled 27 in their opening game of the season vs. Marian University. Of the 32 turnovers today, Campbellsville scored 30 off those miscues.

The only down fall on Saturday is Campbellsville broke a streak of 151 games with a 3-point basket. CU's last game without a triple came on Jan. 23, 2014 vs. St. Catharine College in a 69-55 win.

Leading 10-7 with 3:00 left in the opening quarter, Madison Kaiser and Madison Stewart both converted old-fashioned 3-point plays and the Lady Tigers never looked back.

UPIKE was able to cut the lead to as little as six points, 29-23, midway through the second quarter but CU finished the half on a 11-6 run and led by 11 points, 40-29, at halftime.

The Bears turned the ball over a season-high 19 times in the first half and CU matched that with 19 points off those turnovers.

With 4:00 left in the third quarter, Faulkner came alive by scoring seven straight and pushing CU's lead to 18 points, 53-35.

The fourth frame started very similar as well, as Faulkner tallied four straight, and pushed the Lady Tigers lead to 17 points with 8:50 left.

UPIKE did finish the game on a 12-6 run but it was too little too late for the Bears.

Campbellsville finishes its road schedule with an 8-1 record on the year and returns home next week to complete the regular season. The Lady Tigers host Cumberland University on Thursday at 6 p.m. ET and Lindsey Wilson at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
