CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Third-ranked Campbellsville held Cumberland University to hitting 27 percent from the floor and the Lady Tigers hit nine 3-point field goals enroute to an 83-49 victory on Thursday night.
Leading by 15 points at halftime, the difference maker was the third quarter. Campbellsville held Cumberland to only hitting 1-of-15 from the floor in the frame and the Lady Tigers never looked back.
Overall, Cumberland hit only 4-of-30 in the second 20 minutes of play and the Lady Tigers out-scored the Phoenix 38-19 in the second half.
Jordan Doram scored a season-high 19 points and hit 7-of-9 from the floor, including six rebounds.
Madison Stewart finished with 12 points, while
Caitlin Hall dished out eight assists – one off her career-high.
Alexus Calhoun led the Lady Tigers with a career-high 11 boards.
Overall, the Lady Tigers hit 31-of-66 (47 percent) from the floor.
It didn't take Campbellsville long to get going tonight, as
Lexxus Graham buried the first of two Edward Jones 3-point baskets in the first 45 seconds. The Lady Tigers hit their first five shots and led 12-3, CU went cold and missed nine shots allowing Cumberland to cut the deficit to three, 14-11.
But it was
Savannah Gregory hitting a pair of 3s in the final 1:10 of the opening quarter to push the Campbellsville lead to 10 points, 24-14.
It wasn't a pretty game in the first stanza, as both teams turned the ball over a combined 21 times but the Lady Tigers made up for it by dominating the boards and out-rebounding Cumberland in a big way, 49-23.
In the second quarter, Doram started to put the Lady Tigers on her back. The junior from Georgetown, Ky. converted on her first old-fashioned 3-point play to put CU ahead by 11, 38-27. Just before halftime, she did it again to put the Lady Tigers ahead by their largest margin so far, 45-30.
The third quarter started slow but the Lady Tigers came alive. Both teams combined to hit 2-of-21 to start but a couple 3s by
Madison Kaiser sparked Campbellsville. CU also stepped up its defense and held Cumberland to one only bucket (1-of-15) in the third quarter as the Phoenix missed their final eight shots.
In the fourth, coach
Ginger Colvin was able to play a few reserves ample minutes and they took advantage of their opportunity.
Sammy Rogers scored a career-high five points, including a 3-pointer, and
Cristin Hall buried the Lady Tigers last triple with 3:40 left to put Campbellsville ahead, 79-48.
Cumberland was led by Micah Norris' 18 points but the Phoenix didn't have anyone else scoring above seven points.
Campbellsville will now honor its seniors on Saturday, Feb. 24, as
Lauren Turner,
Lexxus Graham and
Madison Clements are playing their final game in the Powell Athletic Center vs. Lindsey Wilson College. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 ET.
