KLIPPAN, Sweden – The Lady Tiger duo of
Grace Bullen and
Kayla Miracle represented the Campbellsville women's wrestling program on the world stage with a pair of gold medals at the Klippan Lady Open.
Bullen won the gold medal at 59 kg for her home country Norway, while Miracle was one of two Americans to capture the gold after winning in the 62-kg weight class. Adeline Gray of New York AC joined Miracle as a gold medalist from the USA.
In the gold-medal match at 59 kg, Bullen edged Akie Hanai of Japan in a narrow 3-2 contest. Bullen was the only individual from Norway to win a medal at the event in Sweden.
At 62 kg, Miracle defeated three-time Senior World medalist in Yuliia Tkach Ostapchuk of the Ukraine, 3-2.
The Lady Tiger duo of Bullen and Miracle went a combined 7-0 during the tournament in Sweden.
Team USA finished atop the team team rankings with 153 points, which was just ahead of second-place Japan with 147 points. USA was the one of two countries to score in each weight division. Fourth-place finishing Turkey also scored in each of the 10 weight classes and compiled 107 points.
In total, the Americans grabbed seven medals at the Klippan Lady Open. The seven medalists from the USA, as well as the three fifth-place finishers, will score points in the UWW World rankings, which are used to select the seeded wrestlers at the 2018 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
