CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Campbellsville baseball team returns home on Tuesday afternoon to host Huntington University in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. ET from HIG Field.
The Tigers come into the doubleheader with a record of 2-4 after going 1-3 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi against No. 6 William Carey University and No. 25 Webber international University. Campbellsville dropped the first three games of the weekend before upsetting the host Crusaders in extra innings, 4-3.
Logan Roberts posted a .444 batting average for the Tigers this past weekend and recorded a hit in all three games he was put into the batting order. Roberts highlighted the weekend in the fourth game where he posted a two-hit game and hit the game-winning home run in the top of the eighth inning to propel Campbellsville to the victory over William Carey in eight innings.
On offense, the Tigers struggled at the plate over the four games last week as they hit just .195 as a team. Campbellsville scored 11 runs over the four games and had an on-base percentage of .299.
The Tiger pitching staff notched an earned run average of 4.73 and allowed the opposition to hit .276 at the plate. In 32-1/3 innings of work last week, Campbellsville allowed 16 walks and seven hit bats men.
Through the first six games of the season, the Tigers have a team batting average of .231 with
Tyler Deason leading the team with a .538 average. In each game that he has recorded an at-bat, Deason has notched a hit and has a pair of two-hit games.
On the mound, Campbellsville has a 4.29 ERA and the Tigers have struck out 47 batters through six games, but allowed 28 walks and nine hit batters. Campbellsville has allowed its opponents to hit .253 at the plate.
Huntington comes into the week with a record of 0-4 after dropping its first four games of the season to Reinhardt University last week. In the four-game set against the Eagles, the Foresters were outscored 23-10 during the series. Daniel Lichty and Adrian Perez lead Huntington with averages of .417 and are the only two individuals with batting averages over .215. The Forester pitching staff has allowed the opposition to hit .322 at the plate and have a 7.39 earned run average.
In a four-game series at HIG Field last season, Campbellsville took three of the four games at home against Huntington. The Foresters took the first game, 5-1, but the Tigers rebounded and won the final three games by a combined score of 25-1.
