DANVILLE, Ky. — It was a tale of two games for No. 12 Lady Tiger softball as Campbellsville held on for an 8-7 win in game one and ran away with a 17-0 victory in game two over Centre College.
Freshman
Ryleigh Oldham had a stellar night picking up six hits in the two games combined – two singles, two doubles and a pair of home runs, which were her first two collegiate bombs of the year. Overall in the two games, she drove in a team-high five runs and went 3-for-4 in each game.
In addition,
Kelly Wheeler and
Tori Humphrey drove in four runs each.
In the first four games combined, the Lady Tigers have scored a combined 23 runs in the first two innings.
Junior
Morgan Gailor entered the sixth inning in game one to stop the bleeding and earned the save. She backed that up by picking up her second win of the year in game two.
Neely Quint earned the win in game one.
Game one: Campbellsville 8, Centre College 7
Campbellsville put up two runs in the first and four in the second inning to lead 6-0.
Jacqueline Roof led off the game with a hit-by-pitch and later scored on an error. Miller reached on a sac bunt error and later scored on a sac fly by Humphrey.
In the second inning,
Mia Aldridge doubled off the left-center field wall before Oldham parked her first homer of the season. Later in the inning, Miller doubled to center and scored on a Humphrey single. Humphrey later scored on an error to put CU ahead, 6-0.
Quint allowed her first run in the fourth inning, after CU committed one of its nine first-game errors.
In the fifth, Aldridge was able to give CU much needed insurance runs with her first home run of the season and seventh of her career to put CU ahead, 8-1. Those two runs ended up being the game-winners.
Centre answered in the fifth with three runs cutting the lead to four, 8-4.
In the sixth inning, Quint picked up her fourth strikeout, but Melissa Collins started the rally with a one-out double. Sarah Aubuchon followed with an RBI double to cut the lead to three, 8-5. Aubuchon then scored on another Lady Tiger error cutting the lead to two, 8-6.
Gailor relieved Quint in the circle with runners on second and third and two outs and ended up loading the bases by plunking the first batter she faced. But Gailor was able to strikeout Lauren Richards with the bases loaded to end the Centre rally.
In the seventh inning, the Lady Tigers had opportunities to add insurance runs but left the bases loaded. In the bottom half, Centre's Cassidy Cook singled to lead off the frame and advanced to second on an error. She later scored an unearned run after another CU error to cut the lead to one, 8-7.
But with the game-tying run on second base, Roof fielded a ground ball and arm-faked RileyAnne Sharpe off the base to pick up the second out. Gailor was able to seal the victory for CU, and the save for herself, after getting Stephens to roll over to Roof at shortstop.
Oldham went 3-for-4, while
Alexis Smith and
Mia Aldridge both had two hits each.
Quint (2-0) finished tossing 5.2 innings, allowed eight hits and three earned runs.
Game two: Campbellsville 17, Centre College 0 (5 innings)
The Lady Tigers put up a 10-spot in the second inning and Gailor teamed up with
Karson Williams to shutout the Colonels in game two.
Gailor tossed four innings and allowed only two hits, while striking out one. Williams pitched the fifth and earned a pair of Ks in her second appearance of the year.
In the 10-run second inning, CU brought 14 batters to the plate.
Kelly Wheeler scored Bri Scott on a squeeze bunt to start the rally and Roof doubled to centerfield to score two more. Humphrey added an RBI on a fielder's choice before Smith doubled in two more.
Completing the inning, Aldridge earned an RBI single to centerfield and Wheeler doubled in two more for the ninth and 10
th run.
Oldham and Humphrey both tallied three hits in the second game, while Miller and Wheeler had two hits each.
With the victories, the Lady Tigers improve to 4-0 on the season with three of those coming in run-rule fashion. CU has out-scored its opponents 42-13 in those games.
Campbellsville is scheduled to host Lawrence Tech on Friday at 2 p.m. ET to open its home schedule and will turn around on Saturday to host Midway at 12 p.m.
