DAYTON, Tenn. — No. 12 Lady Tiger softball came away with a pair of 6-2 victories over Bryan College on Tuesday afternoon and improved to 6-0 overall.
Tori Humphrey had a huge day at the plate, tallying three doubles, a triple and belted her second home run of the season. In addition, Humphrey drove in four of the 12 total runs.
Brianna Scott tallied two doubles in game one and had a single in game two, while driving in three runs herself.
Alexis Smith also parked her second homer of the season in the first inning of game one.
Neely Quint earned the victory in the first game, tossing a complete-game five-hitter. Quint allowed two runs – one earned – and struck out four to earn her third win of the season.
Morgan Gailor also improved to 3-0 after tossing 6.2 innings, allowing seven hits and striking out four. In three starts – four appearances in total – Gailor has yet to give up an earned run.
Game one: Campbellsville 6, Bryan 2
Rebecca Miller earned a one-out walk in the first inning and was followed with an RBI double by Humphrey to put CU ahead 1-0 early. Scott then stepped to the plate with two outs and delivered an RBI double and was followed with an RBI single by
Ryley Whitney to put CU ahead, 3-0.
Bryan answered with a run in the first after a leadoff hit-by-pitch came around to score on an error. The Lions had another opportunity to plate a second run, but
Ryleigh Oldham gunned down Kimmy McKernie trying to score from second base on a single for the third out of the inning.
CU added insurances runs in the fifth and sixth. Humphrey led off the fifth with a single but a fielder's choice by Smith put her at first with one out. Scott followed with a rocket-shot down the leftfield line to play Smith from first, giving CU a 4-1 lead.
The Lions matched with a run in the fifth. A leadoff single came around to score on an RBI base hit by Heidi Smith.
CU plated two runs in the sixth, giving Quint a little more breathing room. With one out, Roof reached on an error and Miller singled up the middle to put runners on first and second to set up Humphrey's bases-clearing triple.
Game two: Campbellsville 6, Bryan 2
CU put up a three-spot in the first once again to take an early advantage. Miller worked a one-out walk and was followed with a fielder's choice by Humphrey to set up Smith's three-run moon shot over the left field fence.
In the second, CU added another run after a leadoff walk by
Mia Aldridge came around to score on an RBI double by Oldham.
Humphrey led off the third inning by turning around an 0-2 rise ball over the centerfield fence. CU tallied another run in the fifth – this time with two outs. Scott singled to start the rally, stole second and
Jordan Ison moved her to third with her second single of game two. Ison stole second base and Scott scored on the throw to put CU ahead 6-0.
Gailor didn't have her best stuff in game two but worked out of multiple jams enroute to her third win. Bryan picked up three singles in the first inning but Gailor wiggled out of the frame with a fly ball to Aldridge in left.
Bryan had another leadoff batter on in the second but a pair of strikeouts by Gailor ended the frame. In the third, she worked out of a bases loaded jam without allowing a run. The Lions also had runners on first and second in the fifth before Gailor picked up her third strikeout and a fly ball to end the rally.
Freshman southpaw
Karson Williams saw action in the seventh inning and the Lions were able to plate two ending the shutout. Allison Walker turned around the 10
th pitch of the at bat with an RBI double scoring two runs before Gailor came back in and shut the door.
