CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville's tough stretch to open the 2018 season continues as it travels to Athens, Tennessee for another series against another top-25 foe in No. 13 Tennessee Wesleyan University.
The three game series between the Tigers and Bulldogs begins on Friday with a doubleheader starting at 12:30 p.m. ET. Saturday features a one game beginning at 1 p.m. ET.
Campbellsville comes into the weekend on a three-game winning streak after a doubleheader sweep over Huntington University on Tuesday. In the doubleheader earlier this week, the Tigers only allowed one run over the two games en route to outscoring the Foresters, 7-1, and Campbellsville also posted their first shutout of the season.
Against Huntington,
Nick Johnston carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning of the seven-inning game and he ended the day allowing just two hits, without allowing a run in the second game. On offense,
Logan Roberts drove in three of Campbellsville's seven runs on the day and
Marco Murillo had two runs batted in during the first game, which included the team's first triple of the season.
On the year, the Tiger pitching staff has posted a team ERA of 3.50, while posting 56 strikeouts. Roberts leads Campbellsville with 12 strikeouts in 8-1/3 innings of work.
Tyler Deason – who is one of two Tigers to yet allow a run this season on the mound – has posted a team-best .500 batting average in his six games in the batting order. Along with going 8-for-16 at the plate, Deason has driven in two runs. The dual threats continue for Campbellsville as Roberts leads Campbellsville with six of the team's 22 RBI's thus far.
Tennessee Wesleyan comes into the weekend with an even 6-6 mark after dropping a road game at No. 12 Georgia Gwinnett College on Wednesday. Over the first 12 games this season, the Bulldogs have faced seven ranked opponents.
Adrian Gonzalez leads Tennessee Wesleyan with 15 hits and has posted a .349 batting average. Dakota Phillips leads the Bulldogs with four home runs and 11 RBIs to post a .615 slugging percentage. On the mound, Tennessee Wesleyan has compiled a team ERA of 5.22, while allowing the opposition to hit .270 at the plate.
In two matchups between the Tigers and Bulldogs last season, the two teams split the season series. In both games in Athens, Tenn., Campbellsville won the first game, 8-4, but Tennessee Wesleyan rebounded and won game two 16-3.
First pitch of the three-game series is set for 12:30 p.m. ET on Friday to start a doubleheader, followed by a single game on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. ET.
