Baseball faces fifth ranked foe of the year with home series against No. 18 Northwestern Ohio

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The 20th-ranked Campbellsville baseball team returns home this weekend with a four-game series against No. 18 University of Northwestern Ohio on Saturday and Sunday at HIG Field.

Saturday's doubleheader is set to begin at 1 p.m. ET, followed by a 1:00 start on Sunday.

Coming into the weekend, the Tigers hold a record of 8-5 after picking up two wins on Tuesday against University of St. Francis and No. 22 Indiana Institute of Technology. Over the two games on Tuesday, Campbellsville allowed just one run, while scoring 20 of its own.

The Tigers hit four home runs on Tuesday with DePaul Blunt and Connor Lowrie each hitting their first of the season, to go along Chris Taitague and Logan Roberts hitting their second of the year. Of the four home runs, just Lowrie's in the eighth inning against Indiana Tech did not come in a pinch hitting situation.

Tyler Deason and Nick Johnston earned the wins for the Tigers as they both now sit at 2-0 on the season to lead the team. Deason – who has thrown 13 innings – is the only Campbellsville pitcher yet to allow a run this season and he is second on the team with 13 strikeouts after eight against the Warriors.

Ty Housden has posted a .366 batting average and leads six hitters with at least a .300 batting average. Housden and Matthew Valdez are tied for the team lead with 15 hits and Valdez has scored 15 runs for the Tigers. During the first 13 games this season, Campbellsville has scored in the first inning 10 times, while outscoring its opponents 13-1 in the first inning of play.

Northwestern Ohio comes into the weekend with a record of 11-8, but are just 5-8 during the spring portion of its schedule. The Racers started the season at 6-0 over its six conference games this past fall.

Entering the weekend, Northwestern Ohio has a team ERA of 5.51, where Jacob Hulcher has an ERA of 0.71 in 12-1/3 innings of work and he allows opponents to hit just .079 at the plate. At the dish, the Racers are hitting .307 overall with three players hit over .400 and four players have at least 20 hits each. Jose Paulino has a team-high 22 hits and 17 runs scored to go along with 21 hits and 22 RBIs from Junior Gomez.

The series this coming weekend will be the first all-time meeting between Campbellsville and Northwestern Ohio.

First pitch on Saturday afternoon is set for 1 p.m. ET, followed by a 1 p.m. ET start on Sunday.
