No. 3 Lady Tigers tipoff NAIA Tournament with Faulkner on Wednesday at 2 p.m. ET

BILLINGS, Mont. — Lady Tiger basketball is making its NAIA-Record 26th National Tournament appearance on Wednesday afternoon as Campbellsville faces Faulkner University at 2 p.m. ET.
 
For the second straight season, the NAIA Tournament is being hosted at RimRock Auto Arena at Metra Park in Billings, Mont.
 
Every game for Campbellsville can be heard on the flagship station for the Campbellsville University Sports Network, 88.7 The Tiger, with the Voice of Lady Tiger Basketball, Matt Payton, on the radio call. In addition, the NAIA Network – the association's official video streaming home – will broadcast the first 30 games leading up to the championship final on ESPN3. The Lady Tigers, who boast a 28-5 record, are one of three semifinalists returning to the field from last year and have now qualified for an NAIA-record 26 National Tournaments. CU has also reached the NAIA Fab Four in two of the last three seasons and the national finals in 2014-15.
 
The Lady Tigers stayed in the Top 10 for now the 61st-straight poll dating back to the 2012 season. CU remained at No. 3 this week.

  • Faulkner reached the NAIA Championship as one of the final at-large selections, as the Eagles are the final team receiving votes in the latest NAIA Coaches' Poll.
  • The NAIA Tournament appearance is the second in program history for Coach Reed Sutton. The last appearance came in 2012-13 when the Eagles earned a first-round victory over Xavier University, 67-63, at the Frankfort Convention Center in Frankfort, Ky.
  • Faulkner lost to Westminster, 66-60, in the Round of 16 that same season.
  • Reed Sutton was hired as the founding head coach of Faulkner women's basketball in the summer of 2010. In eight seasons his teams have an overall record of 155-91 and a record of 85-55 in the Southern States Athletic Conference.
  • The Eagles were knocked out of the SSAC Tournament by top-seeded Martin Methodist in the semifinals, 69-61.
  • As one of the best 3-point shooting teams in the country, Faulkner University prides itself on using the long ball.
  • Faulkner ranks No. 2 in the NAIA with 8.9 3-pointers per game and No. 3 with 278 triples.

  • Chelsea Burt leads the Eagles by averaging 10.5 points per game, while Kayla Tillman averages 10.5 points.
  • Overall, Tillman ranks No. 11 in total 3-pointers made (80). Tillman ranks No. 15 by making 2.5 3-pointers per game.
  • Brandy Alley is a force in the paint by grabbing 290 rebounds - ranking her No. 13 in the country.
  • Faulkner finished with a 15-1 record at its home court of Tine Davis Gym. The lone loss came to then-No. 22 Martin Methodist, 89-60.

  • Campbellsville is making its 26th NAIA Championships appearance - an NAIA record.
  • Overall in the tournament, CU holds a 28-25 record.
  • The Lady Tigers are one of 10 teams in the tournament with five or less losses this season.
  • • CU is making its 10th-straight trip to the NAIA Tourney, the longest run in program history.
  • CU made its first appearance in 1983 in Kansas City, but qualified for the inaugural NAIA Tournament in 1981 after beating Kentucky State University in the Kentucky Women's Intercollegiate Conference (KWIC) Championship.
  • The Lady Tigers opted to compete instead in the longer-established Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) Championships. Kentucky State went on to win the first NAIA Championship in 1981.
  • NAIA Hall of Fame head coach Donna Wise collected 661 wins and five NAIA quarter final appearances for CU in 32 seasons until her retirement in 2007. She was 13-16 in the NAIA Tournament.
  • Ginger Colvin, CU's second head coach, has taken CU to six NAIA quarterfinals and is 16-9 in the NAIA Championships.
