Tigers get back on winning track with doubleheader sweep of Indiana Tech, 3-2 and 6-1

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville started a five-game in three-day stretch with two wins over Indiana Institute of Technology on Wednesday afternoon, 3-2 and 6-1, at HIG Field.
 
The Tigers (13-8) used three home runs to propel them to the doubleheader sweep of the Warriors (11-13). In three matchups this season, Campbellsville has outscored Indiana Tech 16-3.

In a pitcher's dual to start, the Tigers struck first in the bottom of the third inning. Campbellsville posted three hits over the first two innings, but could not push across a run until the third inning.
 
Matthew Valdez led off the bottom of the third inning with his team-leading sixth home run of the season to put the Tigers on top 1-0. After a Ty Housden double, Logan Roberts singled to left field allowing Housden to score on the play.
 
Campbellsville's offense continue to move through the batting order with Tyler Deason doubling with one out to place two runners in scoring position. David Montoya flew out to left field, but Roberts came in to score on the sacrifice fly. The Tigers used four hits to score their three runs in the inning.
 
Indiana Tech bounced right back with two runs on two hits in the fourth inning. Ryan Meisenheimer singled back up the middle to drive in the two runs for the Warriors.
 
The pitching staffs settled in over the final three innings as just one hit was recorded between the two teams, with the hit coming from Brandon Douglas in the sixth inning on a two-out double.
 
Kirby Broadbent (1-1) grabbed the win after throwing five innings and allowing just three hits and the two runs. DJ Wilson notched his third save of the year allowing just one base runner in the final two innings to secure the 3-2 victory.
 
Tanner Perkins (0-1) allowed seven hits in three innings of work and surrendered the three runs for the Warriors.

Campbellsville jumped out to another lead as it scored its 17th and 18th first-inning runs this season. Valdez was hit by a pitch to the start the game and then with two outs, Roberts delivered a two-run home run to notch his second and third RBIs of the day.
 
Holding a 2-0 lead after the first inning, Shane Stober added to the Campbellsville lead with a single to left field allowing Connor Lowrie to score with two outs.
 
After being held scoreless in the third inning, the Tigers added a run in the fourth inning to increase their lead to 4-0. After three-straight singles to start the inning, Valdez grounded a ball to third base, where the Warriors got the lead runner at home plate with the bases loaded. However, Glen McClain looked to turn a double play at first base, but his throw from home to first base was high allowing Lowrie to score for the second time.
 
Indiana Tech got a run back in the sixth inning to cut its deficit to 4-1, but Justin Phillips got the Tigers out a jam and stranded a pair of runners on base.
 
Two more runs came across for the Tigers in what was their last at-bat with Marco Murillo leading off the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run, and Tyson Solis capped off the inning with a single up the middle that scored Bryson Wallet.
 
Campbellsville secured the doubleheader sweep with a 6-1 win in game two of the day.
 
Deason (3-1) tossed five innings to start, allowing just one hit and walking a pair without giving up a run. Deason has pitched 12 innings against the Warriors this season earning two wins, while giving up just three hits and no runs.
 
After Anthony Arias allowed the lone run, Phillips picked up the save after recording the final five outs of the day.
 
Five pitchers took the mound for Indiana Tech, where Seth Sorenson (0-3) was tagged with loss after allowing three runs in two innings.
 
The Tigers are back in action on Thursday afternoon for a doubleheader against Kentucky Christian University starting at 2 p.m. ET from HIG Field.
