CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Campbellsville baseball team picked up its second doubleheader sweep in as many days with two wins over Kentucky Christian University on Thursday afternoon at HIG Field, 16-1 and 15-0.
The Tigers (15-8) will conclude its three-game series with the Knights (0-14) on Friday afternoon starting at noon ET.
Campbellsville 16, Kentucky Christian 1
After
Parker Loutensock struck out the side in the first inning on just nine pitches, the Campbellsville offense started rolling with three runs on three hits in the first inning.
Logan Roberts had the big hit of the inning with a three-run home run to left field. The Tigers looked to add to its lead, but left the bases loaded.
Kentucky Christian got a run back in the second inning after Loutensock gave up one of his two hits in the game. Dane Wilson moved from first to third on a wild pickoff attempt from Loutensock. However, after the leadoff hit and error, Loutensock allowed just the one run.
The Tigers added six runs on just two hits and an error with a three-RBI triple from
Tyson Solis highlighting the third inning.
Holding a 9-0 lead heading into the fifth inning, Campbellsville continued to increase its lead as two errors haunted the Knights and the Tigers tacked on three more runs in the fifth inning.
In the sixth inning, Campbellsville recorded four hits and four runs to take a 16-1 lead.
Shane Stober and
Matthew Valdez both belted two-run home runs to drive in the four runs.
Mikey Hooper struck out the side in the seventh inning of the run-shortened contest to seal the 16-1 win.
Loutensock (2-0) allowed just one unearned run on two hits in four innings of work, while striking out five batters.
Jared Welander struck out the side in the fifth inning and walked two in his lone inning of work. Hooper threw a perfect sixth and seventh inning, where five of his six putouts came via strikeouts.
Dakota Bowen (0-5) threw five innings allowing 12 runs – nine earned – on seven hits.
Campbellsville 15, Kentucky Christian 0
In game two of the doubleheader, the Campbellsville offense kept rolling as it scored during each of its six at-bats.
Tyler Deason drove in the first two runs of the game with a single to right field scoring
Ty Housden and Solis.
With two outs in the second inning, the Tigers plated three runs after a double from Solis and a single from Housden.
Holding a 5-0 lead in the third inning,
Jalen Horton reached base after a missed fly ball from the Knight center fielder, which allowed
DePaul Blunt to score. Then with two outs in the inning, Solis went the other way and singled out to left field driving in Horton and
David Montoya.
Kentucky Christian ended game two with five errors as Campbellsville's lone fourth-inning run came with two outs and
Brandon Douglas grounded the ball to shortstop, but the Knights misplayed the groundball and Blunt scored on the error.
Without recording a hit in the fifth inning, Campbellsville scored two more runs to take an 11-0 lead after
Jordan Blick drove in Housden with a sacrifice fly. Then a bases-loaded walk to Douglas brought home
Bryson Wallet.
The long ball came back around for the Tigers with Valdez hitting a solo shot to start the sixth inning and Campbellsville added three more runs en route to the 15-0 victory.
Brandon Diaz (2-1) allowed three hits in three innings of work, while
Anthony Arias allowed the final hit for the Knights in the fourth inning.
Connor Lowrie and
Logan Roberts held Kentucky Christian hitless over the final three innings.
Wilson (0-3) earned the loss after giving up eight runs – five earned – on eight hits in three innings.
Along with the 31 runs, Campbellsville recorded 25 hits over the two games.
The three-game series concludes on Friday afternoon at noon ET with one, nine-inning game from HIG Field.
