CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville's softball team stretched its winning streak to six games after sweeping Point Park University on Friday afternoon, 2-0 and 9-1, at Veterans Memorial Park.
Over its first four games at home during the past two days, the Lady Tigers (18-3) have outscored their opponents 33-6.
Campbellsville 2, Point Park 0
The first game of the doubleheader was a pitcher's dual between Ashley Iagnemma and
Neely Quint. Only two runs were scored in the seven innings and the two teams combined for 10 total hits.
In the second inning, the Lady Tigers posted both runs in the game on three hits and an error on the Pioneers (3-9).
Ryley Whitney and
Mia Aldridge posted back-to-back hits to start the inning to place runners on second and third.
Kelly Wheeler loaded the bases with a bunt single and then
Ryleigh Oldham reached on an error, which allowed Whitney and Aldridge to score on the play. Campbellsville tried to increase it lead in the second inning, but left two runners on base after a double play ended the inning after the bases were loaded.
Point Park struggled to get its offense going as it only notched four hits in the game with each of the four hits coming in separate innings. The Pioneers had just four base runners all game as Quint recorded the shutout.
Quint (12-0) threw all seven innings allowing just the four hits and striking out five hitters. Six different Lady Tigers recorded a hit.
Ashley Iagnemma (2-4) pitched six innings in the loss allowing a pair of unearned runs and six hits.
Campbellsville 9, Point Park 1
After posting just two runs in game one, the Lady Tiger bats awoke in game team scoring nine times on just seven hits. During its first at-bat Campbellsville, scored three times behind two hits and two errors.
Jacqueline Roof ended up a third base after an error and
Rebecca Miller drove Roof in with a sacrifice bunt. Whitney delivered a two RBI single to centerfield scoring
Alexis Smith and
Tori Humphrey.
The Lady Tigers continued to roll with four more runs in the second inning. Wheeler and Oldham reached base with recording a hit and then Roof sent a ball out to centerfield for a double to score Wheeler. Miller then drove in Oldham and Miller scored from third base on a groundout from Smith.
In the third inning, Oldham drove in her first run of the game with a single to left field scoring Aldridge from second base. Point Park got one run back in the fourth inning after it strung together three of it four hits in the game in the fourth inning. However, an error kept the inning alive and scored the Pioneers' only run of the day.
The Lady Tigers scored in each of their four at-bats as they added a run in the home half of the fourth inning, to run their lead to 9-1. Campbellsville's run came without a hit after back-to-back walks haunted Point Park and allowed Humphrey to score on a groundout from Whitney – which was the freshman's third RBI in game two.
Morgan Gailor tossed a perfect fifth inning to keep the lead at seven and end the game after five innings. Campbellsville picked up the sweep after beating the Pioneers, 9-1, in game two.
Gailor (6-3) surrendered four hits and an unearned run in five innings of work.
Tiffany Edwards (1-2) suffered the loss after allowing eight runs – seven earned – in three innings. Katie Tarr threw the last frame and gave up a run and two walks.
The Lady Tigers return to action on Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. ET against Brescia University at Veteran Memorial Park.
