Humphrey and Aldridge deliver walk off home runs to seal doubleheader sweep over UPIKE

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — It was a tale of two games for Campbellsville and University of Pikeville, but each game ended with a walk-off home run in CU's favor. Tori Humphrey gave the Lady Tigers a 4-2 win with her first-career walk-off in game one and Mia Aldridge parked her first-career grand slam in a 16-8 walk-off run-rule in game.

With the victories, No. 4 Campbellsville improves to 20-3 overall and extend its win streak to eight games and winning 10 of the last 11.

Humphrey finished the day with two hits in each game as she went 4-for-8 at the plate and drove in three of the four runs in game one. Aldridge went 2-for-3 in game two with a three-run homer and the game-winning grand slam for her first multi-homer game of her career. She also drove in seven runs in game two – the most in a single game since Brianna Scott had seven vs. St. Catharine on March 5, 2016.

Jacqueline Roof also had a big game in the second contest of the twin bill. Roof was a single away from the cycle and picked up four RBI.

Neely Quint (13-0) earned a win in game one and tossed a shutout inning in game two. She went the distance and struck out six in the extra inning win for CU in game one before relieving Morgan Gailor and Karson Williams in the circle in game two for another shutout frame.

Quint tossed nine innings, allowed six hits and one earned run on the day. Karson Williams (1-0) earned her first-career win in game two after tossing two shutout innings and the Lady Tigers stepping up their defense with a pair of double plays for Williams.

The doubleheader on Friday afternoon has been pushed back to 1 p.m. ET at Veterans Memorial Park as Campbellsville and Pikeville complete the season series.

Game one: Campbellsville 4, Pikeville 2 (8 innings)

The Lady Tigers struck first in the first inning with a pair of runs as Roof led off the home-half with a single and scored on an RBI triple by Humphrey. Brianna Scott reached on an error with two outs scoring Humphrey to give CU a 2-0 lead.

Pikeville answered in the third after a leadoff error came around to score on a Lee Collier RBI single.

The fourth, fifth and sixth innings went by in the blink of an eye, but the Bears scratched another run in the seventh to tie it up at two-all. UPIKE's Chandler Kelly started the rally with a double and Kelsey White picked up an infield single to score pinch runner Kendra Gannon from third base.

After going 1-2-3 in the bottom half, UPIKE had an opportunity to take its first lead in the eighth. A two-out double by Collier was followed with a single to center by Kitty Raymond but Brianna Scott gunned-down Collier at home trying to score for the third out.

In the eighth, birthday girl Rebecca Miller started the rally with a double to left and Humphrey followed with the walk-off.

Game two: Campbellsville 16, Pikeville 8 (6 innings)

Morgan Gailor didn't have her best stuff, but the Lady Tigers rallied with 11 unanswered runs in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings combined for the come-from-behind win.

UPIKE chased Gailor in the third inning after she allowed eight runs – seven earned. The Bears put up a four-spot in the second, but Campbellsville answered with five scores in the bottom half.

Scott was hit by a pitch and Whitney walked to setup a three-run homer by Aldridge. Later in the inning, Ryleigh Oldham singled and was followed with an inside the park home run by Roof down the right field line.

But the Bears answered once again with four runs in the third. Haley Osborne delivered an RBI single to right field to score Kelly and she was followed with a three-run homer by Hannah Absher to put UPIKE ahead, 8-5.

CU was able to muster a run in the third with two outs. Humphrey led off the frame with a single and Whitney earned a two-out single up the middle. Humphrey then scored on a wild pitch by UPIKE starter Megan Claypoole.

In the fourth, Williams entered for Gailor and worked a 1-4-6-3 double play to end the UPIKE threat. Then in the fifth she was able to pick up another double play, 6-4-3, to end that Bears rally.

For CU in the fourth, another leadoff walk came around to score for CU. Kelly Wheeler walked and was drove in after a double down the right line to score another run and pull CU within one run, 8-7.

The flood gates came open in the fifth and sixth innings. Alexis Smith scored on a passed ball and Whitney drove in Scott with an RBI groundout to put CU ahead, 9-8. Oldham followed suit with an RBI bloop double down the right field line and Roof tripled to right field, then stole home, to put CU ahead, 12-8.

The sixth inning was all CU as well. Humphry and Smith both singled and Scott walked to set up the Aldridge grand slam.
