Mid-South Conference action for No. 19 Baseball begins at Georgetown on Friday

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville's baseball team begins its 2018 Mid-South Conference season on Friday and Sunday with a three-game series on the road against Georgetown College.
 
The three-game series takes place at Robert N. Wilson Field in Georgetown, Ky. Action on Friday begins at 3 p.m. ET with a doubleheader. Sunday will feature one, nine-inning game with the start to be announced.
 
Campbellsville comes into the series with a record of 16-8 and is the final MSC team to begin its conference slate. Last week, the Tigers swept Kentucky Christian University outscoring the Knights 41-1 over the three games. In five games last week, the duo of Matthew Valdez and Logan Roberts belted three home runs apiece, while Ty Housden went 9-for-15 and scored seven runs.
 
On the season, Valdez has posted a team-best 33 hits and 25 runs scored, to go along with eight home runs – which is second-best in the MSC. After hitting .600 last week, Housden is tied with Valdez with a .384 batting average – best on the team with at least 30 at-bats – and Housden's 11 walks have helped him post the best on-base percentage for Campbellsville at .477.
 
The Campbellsville pitching staff has the best earned run average in the Mid-South at 3.29 in 24 games this season. Campbellsville's duo of Justin Phillips and DJ Wilson have allowed just two runs combined – one earned – in a combined 17-1/3 innings of work out the bullpen. Brandon Diaz leads the Campbellsville starters with a 1.62 ERA. Tyler Deason and Nick Johnston have posted three wins apiece to guide Campbellsville.
 
Coming into conference play, Campbellsville's pitching staff leads the conference in ERA (3.29), opponent batting average (.223), hits allowed (145), runs allowed (72) and earned runs allowed (66).
 
Georgetown enters the three-game series with a record of 15-9 overall and started the MSC season with a 1-2 mark. Georgetown won its first game against Lindsey Wilson College, 14-4, but dropped the final two games of the series on the road. Despite dropping two-straight games, Georgetown is 7-3 in its last 10 games coming into Thursday's contest.
 
Antonio Monroy has guided Georgetown this season with a .317 bating average and is tied for the team lead with a pair of home runs. As a team, Georgetown has a .260 batting average, while allowing the opposition to hit .231. Georgetown is second in the MSC with a 3.70 team ERA, where Sean Dubin has paced the pitching staff. In 48 innings this year, Dubin has a 0.94 ERA and record of 6-0 in seven starts. Along with leading the MSC in ERA and wins he has notched a conference-best 64 strikeouts this year.
 
In the conference series last season, Campbellsville swept the three-game series at home against Georgetown. Campbellsville outscored Georgetown 22-5 in the three games at HIG Field.
