Oldham and Smith deliver another pair of walk offs to secure MSC sweep over UPIKE

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Two more story book endings were signed, sealed and delivered this weekend for Lady Tiger softball. But it came the way of the long ball in their last at bat as No. 4 Campbellsville clinched the series sweep over University of Pikeville with a pair of walk off home runs on Friday afternoon.

Ryleigh Oldham and Alexis Smith both parked their first-career walk off bombs to seal the MSC sweep over the Bears. Oldham's long ball won game three of the series, 4-3, and Smith's opposite field missile gave CU an 8-7 win in game four.

The four homers to clinch a series is the first in program history dating back to the Dakstats era starting in 2004.

Neely Quint earned a pair of wins on Friday after tossing 10 combined innings between the two games and allowing only three runs. The wins improve her record to a perfect 15-0 on the season – which ranks No. 1 in the Mid-South Conference.

With the wins, Campbellsville improves its win streak to 10 games and is now 22-3 overall. The Lady Tigers start conference play with a 4-0 slate and head to Cumberland University next week in Lebanon, Tenn. The four-game set is scheduled for begin on Thursday, March 30 at 3 p.m. ET.

Game one: Campbellsville 4, Pikeville 3

The Bears took a 1-0 lead in the second inning after Hailey Osborne delivered an RBI ground ball with the bases loaded. Quint worked out of that jam, though, thanks to a couple nice defensive plays. Brianna Scott ended the UPIKE threat by throwing out Carrie Griffin trying to score on a base hit.

CU answered in the third inning with a two-spot. Mia Aldridge singled to lead off the frame and scored on an RBI single by Oldham. After two outs were recorded, Rebecca Miller followed with a two-out single to score Oldham and give CU a 2-1 lead.

In the fourth, CU added another run on the board as Oldham delivered her second RBI single to left scoring Scott.

The Bears came back to score two unanswered runs in the fifth and seventh to tie it. Jordan Gentry picked up a two-out RBI single in the fifth and then again delivered in the seventh to tie it up.

But the fireworks came in the home half. Oldham completed her 3-for-3 game by turning on a 1-0 pitch over the centerfield fence. Oldham accounted for three of the four runs in game one, driving in three and scoring twice.

Game two: Campbellsville 8, Pikeville 7

Morgan Gailor once again struggled in the circle, but the Lady Tigers had her back for the second straight game. UPIKE scored in the first but CU answered in the home half with three runs.

Jacqueline Roof walked to leadoff the frame and was followed with a sac bunt by Rebecca Miller. Tori Humphrey drove in Roof with an RBI single and later scored on a Brianna Scott Fielder's Choice. Ryley Whitney drove in the third run with two outs – an RBI double into left field.

But the Bears regained the lead quickly. UPIKE put together four two-out hits and five hits in the inning to score four runs and lead 5-3.

Karson Williams relieved Gailor and tossed the third and fourth frames, allowing only one run. But CU got Gailor off the hook with three scores in the fourth. Oldham scored Scott with a sacrifice fly, and she was followed with a two-RBI single up the middle to tie the game at six.

Neely Quint entered the circle in the fifth, but the Bears regained the lead 7-6 after another two-out hit. UPIKE finished game two hitting 9-of-16 with two outs.

In the seventh, Hannah Skaggs entered for Megan Claypoole in the circle. She worked two quick outs but with CU down to their last chance, Alexis Smith parked her fifth home run over the right field fence for the fourth walk off of the series.

Skaggs was stuck with both losses today, falling to 7-6 overall on the season for the Bears. UPIKE falls to 14-11 overall and 0-4 inside the MSC.
