Tigers have brief stint at home to face Union in a midweek contest on Tuesday afternoon

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville's baseball team is set to play its first midweek contest in nearly two weeks as the Tigers host Union College on Tuesday afternoon at HIG Field.

Campbellsville comes into the week with a record of 17-9 overall and split its Mid-South Conference opening series at Georgetown College to start 1-1 in the MSC. The third game of the weekend series was canceled after rain and snow scattered throughout northern and central Kentucky throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday.

In the doubleheader at Georgetown last week, DePaul Blunt recorded three hits – two doubles – in four at-bats over the two games. Matthew Valdez, Ty Housden, Tyler Deason and Shane Stober all recorded to RBIs for Campbellsville over the two games last week. Parker Loutensock earned the win for Campbellsville in the nine-inning victory over Georgetown in the first game of the doubleheader. Loutensock posted seven strikeouts to set a new season-high allowing three runs on four hits in six innings of work.

On the season, Loutensock and Nick Johnston have recorded a pair of 3-0 marks, while Deason joins the pair with three wins at 3-1. Loutensock has logged a team-high 32 innings for the Tigers, while tossing 31 strikeouts to post a 2.25 ERA. In the back of the bullpen, Justin Phillips and DJ Wilson have been stalwarts for Campbellsville. Phillips has 0.84 ERA in 10-2/3 innings striking out 14 batters, while Wilson has four saves in seven appearances and has allowed just one unearned run in 9-2/3 innings of work.

Valdez and Housden have led the top of the Tiger lineup with the duo hitting over .380 through the first half of the season. Housden leads the team with a .388 batting average and a .479 on-base percentage, along with a team-best 11 doubles. Valdez is just behind with a .383 batting average and he leads the way in hits (31), runs (26), home runs (8), RBIs (19) and slugging percentage (.713).

Union is currently 10-14 on the season and has a mark of 2-10 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference after dropping two-of-three games to Montreat College this past weekend. The Bulldogs have struggled coming into this week as they have gone just 2-4 over their last two weekend series.

Leading Union thus far has been Nick Shumaker with a .373 batting average and 31 hits. Ty Holmstrom is just behind with a .330 batting average and a team-high 27 runs scored. Holmstrom also leads the Bulldogs with 23 RBIs and is second with six doubles, along with four home runs. On the mound, Union has a 4.99 team ERA and has allowed opponents to hit .296 at the plate. Both Austin Dingee and Logan Mallory have paced the pitching staff with a pair of 3-2 marks.

Campbellsville and Union last met in during the 2016 season when the Tigers took both games over the Bulldogs. Campbellsville first edged Union on the road, 2-0, and then grabbed a 10-4 victory at home to wrap up the season sweep over Union.

First pitch on Tuesday afternoon is set for 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday afternoon at HIG Field.
