CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Campbellsville baseball team dropped the final two games of the four-game set at home to No. 18 University of Northwestern Ohio, 5-1 and 11-1, on Sunday at HIG Field.

After giving up just 13 runs over the last nine games coming into Sunday's games, the Tigers (10-7) gave up 16 runs over the two games against the Racers (13-10).

After dropping the first two games of the weekend series, Northwestern Ohio came out strong to start the second day of the series putting two runs up in the first inning. The Racers are now just the second team to score in the first inning against Campbellsville.

Junior Gomez singled out to centerfield, scoring Jose Paulino and Kyle Fisher and putting Northwestern Ohio on top, 2-0.

Campbellsville's offensive recorded a hit in each of the first five innings – and outhit the Racers 9-6 for the game – but the Tigers struggled to to string hits together.

A three-run home run Blake Maines put Northwestern Ohio ahead, 5-0 in the fourth inning. The top of the order did all the damage for the Racers with the first three hitters scoring four of the five runs in the game. Maines and Gomez drove in all five runs and hit in the three and four hole during game one.

After notching a hit in each of the first five innings, Campbellsville only recorded three hits in the final four innings, with all three coming in the seventh inning.

In the seventh inning, the Tigers got their only run of the game with two outs. Tyson Solis doubled to leadoff the inning and with two outs he scored on a single from Brandon Douglas. Campbellsville tried to keep the rally alive with a double from Matthew Valdez to put runners a second and third base with two outs. However, Mitch Ebben came in out of the bullpen and got out of the inning with just one pitch.

Brandon Diaz (1-1) earned the loss after allowing two runs on four hits in three innings to start. Kirby Broadbent threw the final six innings and allowed just two hits, but one was the three-run home run in the fourth inning. Broadbent recorded 11 strikeouts during his outing.
