Lady Tigers are silenced by Specht's gem in the circle; fall to St. Ambrose 5-0

COLUMBUS, Ga. — St. Ambrose University's Ella Specht struck out nine Campbellsville batters enroute to a 5-0 shutout over the Lady Tigers in the night cap on Friday.

Specht allowed only three Lady Tiger (12-3) hits and didn't allow a runner to get past second base to shutout Campbellsville for the third time this season.

Morgan Gailor (4-3) was the tough-luck loser allowing four hits over five innings and one earned run. Karson Williams tossed a couple innings and allowed another earned run but three of the five scores for St. Ambrose were unearned tonight.

Campbellsville had a prime opportunity to start the game in front after a leadoff hit-by-pitch to Jacqueline Roof and walk to Rebecca Miller but the middle of the lineup for CU went cold. That was the way it went for the Lady Tiger offense in the third game of the day.

The Fighting Bees (7-2), who were playing their third straight game, scratched two runs in the second inning and never trailed. Ryan Friend reached on an error and Katlyn Pica-Johnson singled to put runners on first and second with one out. After a ground out to Tori Humphrey at third base, nine-hold hitter Megan Ballengeer doubled to left-center to plate the two.

Rebecca Miller picked up CU's first hit in the third inning with a double to left field, but she was one of the seven base runners stranded for CU on the night.

SAU picked up the lone earned run off Gailor in the fourth. Pica-Johnson doubled with one-out and later scored on a wild pitch to put the Fighting Bees ahead, 3-0.

St. Ambrose plated two more in the sixth. Williams entered for Gailor in the circle and a one-out error ended up around to score on an RBI triple by Sydney Englehart. Ballengeer then scored Englehart with sac fly to put SAU ahead, 5-0.

Campbellsville will now play two games on Saturday. The schedule has changed once again, as the Lady Tigers will play No. 13 Ottawa University at 11 a.m. ET and Thomas University at 4:00. Both games will be aired on the CU Sports Network.
