CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – After a quick break from the road and numerous schedule changes, the Campbellsville baseball team is back on the road for a doubleheader against Shawnee State University in Portsmouth, Ohio. Action begins at noon ET on Monday afternoon from Branch Rickey Field.
Campbellsville enters the weekend series with a record 18-9 overall after beating Union College at home on Tuesday afternoon, 6-2. The Tiger pitching staff gave up just three hits and two runs in the victory, while the six pitchers compiled 14 strikeouts. The 14 strikeouts from the Campbellsville pitching staff set a new season high for the team, after the Tigers compiled 13 strikeouts against Kentucky Christian earlier this month.
On offense, Campbellsville notched 14 hits – third most in a game this season. Campbellsville had nine different batters record a hit against Union, along with
Matthew Valdez,
Tyson Solis,
Bryson Wallet,
Jalen Horton and
Shane Stober recording two hits apiece.
Overall, Valdez has paced the Campbellsville offense with a .392 batting average and 38 hits. The senior also has notched 20 RBIs and eight home runs, to go along with a .722 slugging percentage and .474 on-base percentage. With Valdez hitting leadoff in all 27 games this year he has paced the Tigers to outscoring the opposition 33-7 in the first inning.
Campbellsville's pitching staff recorded a 3.35 ERA this season – ranking 14th in the NAIA – while ranking 11th in opponent batting average at .220.
Parker Loutensock paced the Tigers to a conference opening victory over Georgetown College to move to 3-0 on the season. Loutensock also has 2.25 ERA in 32 innings of work to pace the pitching staff, while leading the way with 31 strikeouts.
Shawnee State comes into the weekend with a record of 12-13 overall and 1-5 in Mid-South Conference action. After dropping five-straight MSC matchups to start the season, the Bears recorded an 11-4 victory over University of Pikeville in the series finale last week.
Coming into the weekend Seth Clement has guided the Shawnee State offense with a .380 batting average, to go along with 12 RBIs. Dalton Phillips has recorded both of the Bears home runs this year and has a team best 23 RBIs. On the mound, Shawnee State has a team ERA of 6.77 and allowed opponents to bat .294.
Last year's three-game series at HIG Field featured Campbellsville taking two of the three games over Shawnee State.
First pitch of the doubleheader is set for noon ET on Monday from Portsmouth, Ohio.
