Quint earns 20th win enroute to Lady Tiger softball's sweep over rival Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, Ky. — Neely Quint shined in the circle to earn her 20thwin of the season and Morgan Gailor worked out of multiple jams to lead No. 4 Campbellsville to a doubleheader sweep over rival Georgetown College.

The Lady Tigers set the tone with a 2-1 win in game one and followed it with a 3-1 victory in the second contest.

Quint improve to a perfect 20-0 to lead the MSC in wins and that mark is second in the country. She tossed a complete-game six-hitter while striking out four. Gailor (10-4) picked up her third straight complete game as well, going seven innings, striking out three and not allowing a walk.

Offensively, Campbellsville scored its lone two runs of game one in the first inning and Quint held on for the win.

In game two, the Lady Tigers scored a pair of unearned runs in the fourth frame after a Georgetown error to take a 3-1 lead – which would hold.

Campbellsville (31-4, 13-1) earns its ninth straight 30-win season with the doubleheader sweep. In coach Shannon Wathen's 15 seasons, the Lady Tigers have 11 30-plus win seasons.

In addition, Lindsey Wilson lost twice today to Cumberland University to push Campbellsville's lead in the Mid-South Conference standings to four games.

Game one: Campbellsville 2, Georgetown 1

The Lady Tigers took a 2-0 lead early after Jacqueline Roof led off the game with a hit-by-pitch and moved to second base on a sac bunt by Rebecca Miller. Roof then scored on an RBI base hit by Tori Humphrey to centerfield and Humphrey moved to second on the throw home. After a line out to centerfield by Alexis Smith, Ryley Whitney delivered a two-out RBI single to left to put CU ahead, 2-0.

Whitney led the Lady Tigers with two hits in the first game.

That was all the runs the Lady Tigers would need as Quint was terrific in the circle. Georgetown had a runner on in the first three innings, but Quint worked out of jams in each. In the fourth, Whitney erased a leadoff single by Allison Watson as she was picked off trying to steal - the fourth for Whitney this season.

Moving all the way to the seventh, a leadoff single by Hannah Howes brought the game-tying run to the plate. But Quint picked up a pair of ground balls by Katie Young and NAIA All-American Chaselyn Allgeier to secure the win.

Game two: Campbellsville 3, Georgetown 1

The Lady Tigers scored in the first inning once again. Roof led off the game with a double and later scored on an RBI ground ball fielder's choice by Tori Humphrey

In the bottom half, Gailor allowed a leadoff single to Allgeier come around to score after a two-out double by Skylar Houston.

Campbellsville had opportunities to regain the lead in the second and third innings but a pair of inning-ending double plays by Georgetown ended CU threats.

In the fourth, CU took advantage of one of the two Georgetown errors in game two. A pair of one-out singles by Smith and Whitney put CU on the bases and they were followed with Brianna Scott's 15thhit by pitch of the season to load the bases. Jordan Ison then scored two runs as her hard-hit ground ball went under the glove of Georgetown's shortstop Allison Watson.

Gailor then had to work out of jams in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. In the fifth, Georgetown had a pair of singles by Howes and Corrin Robinson, but Ryleigh Oldham chased down a liner down the right field line to rob Katie Young of a hit. With one out, Allegier grounded out and Rebecca Miller then caught a fly ball by Cassidy James at the warning track to end the threat.

Gailor worked around a two-out hit in the sixth but in the seventh the Tigers had the game-tying run on base once again. Robinson delivered a one-out single but Gailor picked up her fourth strikeout as Katie Young went down on strikes. Then with two outs, coach Thomas Thornton decided to pinch-hit for his All-American left fielder with the game on the line and Gailor picked up a ground out by Alexis Arnold to seal the win.

Campbellsville now heads to Kentucky Christian for a weekend conference series on Friday-Saturday, April 13-14. First pitch vs. KCU on Friday is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.
