Tigers hold off Rio Grande in game two to salvage road split to cap off midweek action

RIO GRANDE, Ohio – The Tigers dropped the first game of the doubleheader at University of Rio Grande, 7-6, in 10 innings, but rebounded with a 9-8 victory in game two at Bob Evans Field.

Campbellsville now heads into its weekend series with a record of 25-12 after the doubleheader split. Logan Roberts highlighted the day going 3-for-3 in game one with two home runs in the loss.

Rio Grande 7, Campbellsville 6 (10 innings)

Both teams traded runs in the first inning of game one after Marco Murillo scored Tyson Solis with a sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning. In the bottom of the first inning, Cody Blackburn hit a solo home run to tie the game at one.

Roberts started the third inning with a solo home run to give the Tigers a 2-1 edge after three innings. The Campbellsville offense picked up in the fourth inning with two outs. Murillo doubled down the left field line scoring Chris Taitague, while DePaul Blunt reached on an error to score Murillo and Roberts on the play and gave Campbellsville a 5-1 advantage.

The Red Storm (17-23) came back with two runs on two hits in the fourth inning, but another leadoff home run from Roberts in the sixth inning made it 6-3 moving to the bottom of the sixth inning.

However, the Tigers three-run lead vanished with a three-RBI double down the left field line from Dylan Shockley to tie the game at six.

Neither team could score in the seventh inning to push the game into extra innings as the 6-6 tie held until the 10th inning. In the bottom of the 10th inning, Rio Grande had the bases loaded with one out, where Kameron Herring chopped the ball back to Murillo on the mound, but Murillo's throw was wide and Michael Rodriguez scored the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning, 7-6.
