Lady Tiger softball heads to Kentucky Christian for weekend conference series in Grayson

GRAYSON, Ky. — Riding a six-game win streak and winning 19 of the last 20, No. 4 Lady Tiger softball gets back on the diamond this weekend as Campbellsville travels to Kentucky Christian University.

The Lady Tigers and Knights are scheduled for a doubleheader starting Friday, April 13 at 2 p.m. The series will conclude with another doubleheader on Saturday starting at Noon ET.

All four games of the series will air on the Campbellsville University Sports Network, as Jordan Alves has the radio call starting 15 minutes before first pitch each day.

Campbellsville enters the weekend after taking two games from rival Georgetown College on Tuesday evening. The Lady Tigers won 2-1 and 3-1 in the mid-week doubleheader, while Kentucky Christian split with Shawnee State on Tuesday.

The Knights are the newest member in the Mid-South Conference as they had previous competed in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference/Independents since their inaugural season in 2015. KCU, which carries in a 7-20 overall record has only wont two of its last 14 games, but both have come against conference foes – 7-4 over University Cumberlands on March 26 and 8-5 over Shawnee State earlier this week.

The Lady Tigers enter the weekend with a 31-4 overall record and 13-1 inside conference play. CU has won 19 of its last 20 games with the lone loss coming to Cumberland University in the series finale in Lebanon, Tenn. on March 31, 6-4.

Update around the Mid-South Conference
Campbellsville is in the driver's seat after starting conference play with a 13-1 record. With the two wins over Georgetown on Tuesday and Lindsey Wilson falling twice on the road to Cumberland University, the Lady Tigers own a four-game lead over the Blue Raiders. LWC is 9-3 inside conference play and travels to Shawnee State this weekend.

The Nos. 3-6 teams in the standings are all within two games of each other. Georgetown is 7-5, while Cumberland University and Shawnee State both own 6-8 records. University of the Cumberlands, who stole a game over Lindsey Wilson two weeks ago, is 5-9, while University of Pikeville and Kentucky Christian are tied for seventh at 2-8.

Lady Tigers are starting to put it all together
Campbellsville has been one of the best offensive teams in the country all season, but the defense and pitching has really started to come along as of late. The Lady Tigers are hitting .323 as a team and are second in the Mid-South Conference with 35 home runs on the season. CU also ranks first in doubles (66), third in triples (7), first in RBI (225) and first in slugging percentage (.531)

Jacqueline Roof has been on a tear as late and started to find the barrel of the bat. In the last 10 games, Roof is 17-of-34. She just recently broke the career-record for most runs scores with 195. She also ranks first in Lady Tiger history with a career batting average of .395 and .713 slugging percentage. In addition, Ryley Whitney is 11-of-17 in the last six games and upped her average from .319 to .375. In the last 11 games, Whitney has six doubles and drove in 11 runs.

Neely Quint has led the charge in the circle, as the Brookport, Ill. native boasts the most single-season wins in her career with a 20-0 record. In her first three seasons, Quint tallied 19 wins in each. Her 1.42 ERA also ranks second in the conference.

With Morgan Gailor finding her groove as of late, the Quint-Gailor one-two punch is one of the best in the country. Gailor is fifth in the MSC in ERA (1.87) and has a 10-4 record.

But it's been the Lady Tiger defense that has stepped up lately. In the last nine games, CU has recorded only two errors and climbed from last in the conference in fielding percentage to fifth at .946.

Upcoming contests
Campbellsville is hosting Georgetown College on Wednesday, April 18 with a doubleheader at 2 p.m. ET at Veterans Memorial Park. CU is also dedicating and naming the field as Hord Family Softball Complex at Veterans Memorial Park. The presentation will be conducted between games.
