Deason posts season-high nine strikeouts as No. 21 Baseball beats rival Lindsey Wilson, 3-1

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Tyler Deason rolled to his sixth win of the season after recording a season-high nine strikeouts and allowed just one run in seven innings to guide Campbellsville to a 3-1 victory over Lindsey Wilson College at HIG Field on Friday night.

Logan Roberts paced the Tigers (29-13, 8-2 Mid-South Conference) at the dish going 2-for-4 and hitting a home run in eighth inning to push his season total to 13.

The Blue Raiders (21-22, 7-5 MSC) got on the board first after a leadoff single from Tyler Maskill in the second inning. Maskill came around to score without a Lindsey Wilson hit and touched home following a second wild pitch from Deason in the inning.

Campbellsville finally broke its scoring drought with one run on two hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Roberts started the inning with a single out to right-center field and moved up to second base after a sacrifice bunt from Marco Murillo. On the next pitch, Ty Housden sent a line shot down the right field line to bring home Roberts from second base and tie the game, 1-1.

The Tigers took the lead in the next frames after a sacrifice fly from Matthew Valdez scored Chris Taitague from third base – who started the inning with a single back up the middle.

After allowing the run in the second inning, Deason was dialed in and shutout the Blue Raiders over his final five innings. In each of his seven innings, Deason retired at least one batter via strikes to set his new season best.

Roberts gave Campbellsville an insurance run in the eighth inning with a two-out solo home run over the wall in right-center field to put the Tigers ahead, 3-1, heading into the eighth inning.

DJ Wilson came in and shut the door in the ninth inning retiring Lindsey Wilson in order tossing nothing but strikes. Wilson struck out two batters and forced a groundout to earn his eighth save of the year and securing a 3-1 victory over Lindsey Wilson.

Deason (6-1) allowed six hits and one run in seven innings, where he walked two, but struck out nine batters. Justin Phillips pitched the eighth inning allowing one walk, but delivered a 1-6-3 double play to end a potential threat from Lindsey Wilson.

Ricky Winfield (5-3) suffered the loss after allowing two runs on five hits. Winfield struck out three batters and walked one in his five innings. Luis Corral pitched the final three innings surrendering a run on three hits and posting a strikeout.

Campbellsville and Lindsey Wilson return to action on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. ET for a doubleheader to finish off the three-game series at HIG Field.
