CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Marco Murillo belted a walk-off home run in game one of the doubleheader to lead Campbellsville to a 4-3 victory, while the Tigers used a four-run sixth inning to win game two, 10-6, at HIG Field.
Murillo and
David Montoya each recorded two hits and two RBIs in game one for the Tigers (31-13, 10-2 Mid-South Conference), while
Ty Housden had three hits in game two with five RBIs to post the doubleheader sweep of the Blue Raiders (21-24, 7-7 MSC).
Campbellsville 4, Lindsey Wilson 3
After posting three runs in the second inning, the Tigers clinged to a 3-0 lead after six innings. Housden and
Tyler Deason started the second inning with back-to-back hits and Murillo drove in a run after a single to left field. Montoya delivered his two RBIs with a single to the gap in left-center field to give the Tigers a 3-0 advantage after two innings of play.
However, Lindsey Wilson worked its way back into the game with a run in the seventh, eight and ninth innings. In the seventh and eighth innings, the Blue Raiders scored their runs with two outs. In the ninth inning, a leadoff double came around to score against
DJ Wilson – who allowed his first earned run of the season.
With one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, Murillo sent a 3-2 pitch over the wall in left field to notch the walk-off victory for the Tigers in a 4-3 contest.
Wilson (3-1) earned the win after allowing two hits and one run in an inning of work.
Parker Loutensock was dealing on the mound in his seven-inning start, where he allowed one run, six hits, two walks, while also striking out five hitters.
Logan Roberts pitched the eighth inning allowing a run on a hit, but recorded two of his three outs via strikeouts.
Tyler Russell (7-4) suffered the loss after throwing 8-1/3 innings, where he allowed four runs on nine hits.
Campbellsville 10, Lindsey Wilson 6
The final game of the series did not carry the same tune as the first two as runs did not come at premium to close out the three-game set.
Campbellsville scored two runs early on with
Matthew Valdez scoring on wild throw by the Blue Raider third baseman. Then Housden notched his first of five RBIs with a RBI groundout to score
Tyson Solis, which gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead after the opening frame.
Trailing 2-0 at the start of the third inning, Lindsey Wilson recorded three runs on four hits and a Campbellsville error to grab a 3-2 lead.
Anthony Arias got out of the jam after coming in out of the bullpen and stranded three Blue Raiders on base.
In the bottom of the third inning, the Tigers cancelled out the three-spot from Lindsey Wilson after they scored three runs on three hits. Housden put Campbellsville back on top, 5-3, with three-run home run out to centerfield. Housden's long ball was his first home run of the season.
The game continued to go back-and-forth after Lindsey Wilson tied the score once again with two runs in the fourth inning. The Blue Raiders took their second lead of the day in the top of the fifth inning after an RBI single with one out from Nick Sanders.
Valdez belted his 11th home run of the season to start the home half of the inning and tie the score at six. The Tigers looked to regain the lead, but left two runners stranded in scoring position to end the stanza.
Campbellsville's offense got rolling once again in the sixth inning with four runs on three hits and a Lindsey Wilson error. Valdez drove in his second run in as many innings with a double to the gap in the left field to put the Tigers on top, 7-6. Solis followed with a single to score Valdez and then Roberts reached on another wild throw from the Blue Raider third baseman. On the error, Solis scored from first and Roberts moved all the way up to third base.
The line kept moving with two outs after
Ty Housden singled to left field, scoring Roberts and giving Campbellsville a 10-6 edge heading into the final inning.
Wilson shut the door to earn his second win of the day after throwing the sixth and seventh innings allowing a one-out single in the seventh, but struck out the side in the seventh inning to seal the 10-6 victory for Campbellsville.
Wilson (4-1) tossed two innings allowing the one hit and struck out three batters.
Kirby Broadbent got the start and gave up two runs – one earned – on four hits, but he notched three strikeouts in 2-1/3 innings.
Louis Corral (2-2) was tagged with loss after allowing three runs and three hits in 3-1/3 innings out of the bullpen.
Campbellsville steps out of conference action on Monday and travels to Indiana University-Southeast for a 6 p.m. ET contest in New Albany, Indiana.
