Miracle wrestling for U.S. Open title; four others competing for seventh place in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS — Four-time WCWA College National Champion Kayla Miracle will wrestling tonight, Friday, April 28 at 10 p.m. ET, for the Gold medal match at the Marine Corps U.S. Open.

Miracle, ranked second at 62 kg, will face off with 2017 World Team member Mallory Velte of Titan Mercury WC in one of the 10 Gold medal matches at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

In addition, Campbellsville has four other Lady Tigers going for seventh place and another trying to work her back to third.

Miracle received a bye in the opening round and then tech'd Gabrielle Garcia of Anaheim, Calif. 10-0 in the first period. In the quarterfinals, Miracle earned another tech fall in just 1:15 over Branna Csontos to set up a semifinal bout with 2017 World Team member Jenna Burkert. Miracle picked up the 7-1 win to setup tonight's championship match.

Mariah Harris, a 2018 WCWA Runner-Up and ranking third in the latest rankings, is competing at 76 kg and earned a victory in the championship bracket. Harris defeated Janella Fuamatu, 11-2, but then was facing 2016 Olympian Adeline Grey in the semifinal.

Gray pinned Harris in 1:15 to advance to the finals. She did not compete in the 2017 season to recover from injuries. Gray's opponent in the finals will be young Leilani Camrgo-Noane of the MWC Wrestling Academy, a 3-0 winner over Korinae Bullock of the McKendree Bearcat WC in the other semifinals.

Other Lady Tigers who are competing for seventh – Alexia Foca, Charlotte Fowler, Kaitlyn Hill and Koral Sugiyama

Foca, competing at 68 kg, lost in the quarterfinal match. After leading 7-1, Anna Naylor rallied to earn six points in the first 30 seconds of the second period. She then lost to Yvonne Galindo in the consolation bracket. Foca will wrestle Skylar Grote for her seventh place match.

Sugiyama, ranked second at 53 kg, lost 10-0 to Michaela Beck in the quarterfinals and Megan Black in the consolation bracket, 10-6. Sugiyama will face Daniela Flores for her seventh place match.

Fowler, ranking third at 53 kg, lost in the first round to Alisha Howk, but earned a hard-fought win, 12-11, over former Lady Tiger Michelle Lomas in the consolation bracket. But Gabriella Wyhrich defeated Fowler 12-2 to force her into today's seventh place match against Ronna Heaton.

Hill was also wrestling along with Harris at 76 kg but lost in her championship and consolation matches. She will wrestle for seventh place today against Precious Bell.

In addition, No. 7 Morgan Becker lost in the championship round at 72 kg and again in the consolation bracket. Shelby Hall, competing at 59 kg, also was knocked out of the championship and consolation brackets.

The gold-medal finals are set for 10 p.m. ET on Friday, and will be aired live on Flowrestling.
