CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville's baseball team is concluding one of its busiest stretches this season with seven games over five days. That stretch comes to a close with the Tigers hosting University of Pikeville on Thursday and Friday for three-game Mid-South Conference series at HIG Field.
The series begins with one, nine-inning game on Thursday starting at 4 p.m. ET, followed by a Friday doubleheader with the start time now set for noon ET.
Campbellsville comes into the conference series with a record of 22-9 after posting five-straight wins, while grabbing victories in 11 of their last 12 games. The Tigers are also 3-1 in MSC action during the early portion of their schedule. Through the first three day this week, Campbellsville swept a doubleheader at Shawnee State University, then upended No. 9 Bryan College and Union College on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.
Last time out against Union; the Tigers recorded 17 hits to match a season-high 16 runs. Campbellsville also scored 16 times against Kentucky Christian University on March 15.
Bryson Wallet drove in four more runs for the Tigers as he now has nine RBIs in the last two games, while
DePaul Blunt scored three times and also had three RBIs against Union.
Logan Roberts has gotten his bat going this week, as he is 10-for-17 at the dish over the first four games this week. He has three RBIs, six runs scored and a pair of home runs, while slugging .941 at the plate during the last four games.
After going 2-for-3 on Wednesday,
Ty Housden now leads the Tigers with a .374 batting average on the year. Housden has scored 23 runs on 37 hits, to go along with a team-high 13 doubles.
Matthew Valdez is hitting .366 on the year with 41 hits, 28 runs scored, nine home runs and 23 RBIs. Despite going 3-for-15 to start the week, Valdez has reached base safely in the last 24 games to set a new season high for him and the team. Housden comes into the series on the 10-game hitting streak, which is the second longest for a Tiger this season following a 13-game hitting streak from Valdez, which was snapped after going 0-for-2 against Bryan on Tuesday.
On the mound for the Tigers, they have posted a team ERA of 3.29 and have an opponent batting average of .219 – both leading the MSC and ranking in the top 16 nationally. Parker Lotensock leads Campbellsville this season with 36 strikeouts, while posting an ERA of 2.37 and a 3-0 record.
Pikeville enters the week with a record of 19-12 and is 3-3 in the Mid-South Conference. The Bears swept a doubleheader over Kentucky Christian last week, 17-0 and 10-1, which was highlighted by a perfect game from Bruce Bell in the first game of the doubleheader. Leading the Pikeville offense this season has been Matt Peterson with a .413 batting average and 43 hits. Peterson has 32 RBIs and two of the Bears' six long balls this season.
On the mound, Bell has leads the way for Pikeville, where his ERA dipped to 2.41 after tossing a perfect game in his last outing. Bell is 4-1 on the year with six starts and has an opponent batting average of .207. As a team, Pikeville has a team ERA of 5.94 and allows opponents to hit .278.
Last season in Pikeville, Campbellsville took a pair of extra inning games from the Bears, while Pikeville took the first game of the three-game set at home.
First pitch of the series is set for 4 p.m. ET on Thursday afternoon from HIG Field. Campbellsville and Pikeville wrap up the series on Friday with a doubleheader set for noon ET.
