Whitney has a big day at the plate, while Quint and Gailor shut Cumberlands down in the circle

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Ryley Whitney tallied six hits and six RBI, as Neely Quint and Morgan Gailor both tossed complete-game shutouts enroute to a pair of 8-0 run-rule victories over University of the Cumberlands on Thursday afternoon. 
 
Whitney, a freshman from Scottsville, Ky., went 6-for-7 at the plate with four singles and two doubles to up her average from .319 to .364 and now has 27 RBI – which is tied for second on the team with Tori Humphrey and Ryleigh Oldham
 
Quint improved her record to 18-0 on the season – which is first it conference and second in the country. She tossed a five-inning one-hitter in the opener, while striking out two and throwing only 51 pitches. 
 
Gailor also tossed a gem in the circle, allowing four hits through six innings and striking out four while not allowing any free passes.   
 
The Lady Tigers improved to 27-4 overall and 8-1 to lead the Mid-South Conference standings. Cumberlands fell to 11-19 and 4-6 in the MSC. Both teams finish the series on Friday morning with a doubleheader now starting at 11 a.m. ET (originally scheduled for Noon ET). 
 

Game one: Campbellsville 8, Cumberlands 0
 
CU put up a two-spot in the first and third innings, while scoring a single run in the fourth and five more in the fifth for the run-rule win. 
 
Rebecca Miller, who reached base three times in game one with two walks and a hit-by-pitch, reached on her first free pass in the opening frame with one out and stole second base – the first of three on the day. She later came around to score on a two-out Alexis Smith double to right-center field. Whitney's first at bat of the day was a hard-hit single to left field scoring Smith and putting Campbellsville ahead, 2-0. 
 
In the third, the Lady Tigers took a 4-0 lead. Another walk to Miller started the rally and then scored on a Whitney double to right-center field. Smith, who also walked, came around to score on a sac fly by Brianna Scott

After picking up two quick outs, Cumberlands' Sydney Pennycuff (7-8) allowed a double to Ryleigh Oldham who was drove in my Jacqueline Roof with an RBI single. Pennycuff gave way to Tara Comer for the final 0.2 innings of work.
 
Quint allowed the lone hit in the fifth inning with two outs. After recording the first two outs, she walked Savannah Jones and allowed a single to Emily Fox up the middle. 
 
The Lady Tigers clinched the opener with a three-spot in the bottom half. Miller led off once again by reaching via a hit-by-pitch and scored on an RBI single by Whitney. Tori Humphrey, who singled, and Whitney both scored the game-winning runs as Jordan Ison reached on the lone error for Cumberlands. 
 
Whitney was the lone Lady Tigers to pick up multiple hits, going 3-for-3 and driving in three. 
 

Game two: Campbellsville 8, Cumberlands 0
 
The Lady Tigers didn't scratch any runs until the third and fourth, putting up a total of seven in the middle innings. 
 
Gailor allowed a single to lead off the game and two more in the second but then sat down 10-straight batters. 
 
CU was able to give her run support in the third, as the Lady Tigers took advantage of a one-out error. Oldham reached but Roof grounded into a fielder's choice for the second out. 
 
That's when CU would string together six straight hits starting with Miller's infield single at first base. Humphrey drove in Roof with a single through the left side and Smith drove in Miller with a bloop-double to right field. 
 
Leading now 2-0, Whitney cleared the bases with two more RBI as she singled to left to give CU a 4-0 advantage. Cumberlands then went to Comer out of the bullpen once more in the final two innings. 

Sydney Maynard (3-9) lasted only 3.2 innings, allowed 11 hits and seven earned runs. 
 
In the fifth, Oldham led off with a double off the center field fence and later scored on a suicide squeeze by Miller. After stealing second – her third of the day – Miller scored on another RBI base knock by Smith. Brianna Scott kept the inning going with a double to right field to score Smith and put CU ahead, 7-0. 
 
The span of 10-straight batters ended with a single to lead off the sixth but Gailor induced a 4-6-3 double play with Dana Adkins and Jacqueline Roof to end the Cumberlands threat. 
 
In the sixth, Miller started the rally once more and scored on an RBI double by Whitney to complete the run-rule.
