Tigers begin NAIA Baseball Opening Round on Monday against Reinhardt at Bowling Green Ballpark

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Campbellsville baseball team continues its postseason run at the NAIA National Championship – Opening Round in Bowling Green, Ky., against Reinhardt University on Monday at 1:30 p.m. ET from Bowling Green Ballpark.
 
The opening round runs from Monday through Thursday. Nine opening round brackets have been placed throughout the country with all nine winners of the five-team, double-elimination brackets moving on to the Avista-NAIA World Series with Lewis-Clark State College later this month.

Following scheduling changes, the tournament will now have four games on Monday and three games on Tuesday.
 
Campbellsville is the No. 2 seed in Bowling Green Bracket after winning the Mid-South Conference Tournament last week at Bowling Green Ballpark to earn an automatic bid. This is the Tigers' eighth appearance in the opening round and have compiled a record of 14-13 overall in the opening round. Campbellsville won its only opening round title in 2009 for its only NAIA World Series in program history. Campbellsville is currently 35-16 on the season.
 
Entering the national tournament, the Tigers have four individuals hitting over .350 to lead the team to a .316 team batting average. Matthew Valdez leads the way with a .364 batting average and is second on the team with 12 home runs and 35 RBIs. Logan Roberts has notched 15 home runs and 41 RBIs to guide the Tigers, while posting a .351 average.
 
As a team, Campbellsville ranks sixth in the NAIA with a .971 fielding percentage, while also ranking in the top 20 in opponent batting average and earned run average. The Tigers rank 11th in the opponent batting average (.231) and 17th in earned run average (3.74).
 
Leading the Campbellsville pitching staff has been the duo of Tyler Deason and Parker Loutensock. Deason has a 3.07 ERA with a 6-2 record and 55 strikeouts. Loutensock comes into the national tournament with a 3.11 ERA and a 4-0 record, while leading the way with 68 strikeouts. DJ Wilson has anchored the backend of the Tiger bullpen with a 5-1 record and 10 saves. In 32-2/3 innings of work, Wilson has struck out 33 batters and posted a 0.55 ERA.
 
The Tigers first opponent – Reinhardt – comes into the national tournament as the No. 3 seed with a record of 38-17 and finished 20-7 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. The Eagles have the fourth-best defense in the NAIA at .972 and ranks sixth in assists with 570 this season. Daniel Rodriguez leads the defense with 189 assists – most in the NAIA.
 
Rodriguez also leads the offense with a .343 batting average and has 13 stolen bases to lead the way. Sherman Graves has a team-best 52 RBIs, to go along with a .319 batting average and Jacob Cagle leads Reinhardt with 12 home runs. On the mound, Reinhardt has a 3.96 ERA with Heriberto Casasola pacing the bullpen with a 1.57 ERA and Dylan Powers guiding the starters with a 10-3 record, 2.79 ERA and a .259 opponent batting average.
 
The No. 1 seed in the Bowling Green Bracket is University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma. The Drovers won the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament to grab an automatic berth into the national tournament. Science & Arts is 45-6 this season and went 24-3 in the SAC. The Drovers are one of the top offenses in the NAIA, ranking in the top five in runs scored per game (9.46), RBIs per game (8.60), batting average (.354) and slugging percentage (.555).
 
PJ Garcia has a .407 batting average to pace six Science & Arts starters in hitting over .350. Daniel Lafarga has a team-best 12 home runs and 61 RBIs this season and is knocking on the door of the .350 this season at .348. The Drovers have a 3.78 ERA as a pitching staff, where Jose Hidalgo has been the ace for Science & Arts. Hidalgo has a 9-2 record in 12 starts this season where he has posted a 2.14 ERA. Angel Reyes is second in the NAIA with 11 saves and he his 4-0 in 27 appearances.
 
Also in the Bowling Green Bracket is No. 4-seeded Bellevue University and No. 5-seeded Midland University. The Bruins and Warriors faceoff in the first game of the opening round at 11 a.m. ET on Monday morning, where the winner moves on to face top-seeded Science & Arts.
 
Bellevue is 37-21 this season and went 17-5 in the North Star Athletic Association, where it earned an automatic bid after winning the NSAA Tournament. The Bruins are sixth in nation with 1.42 home runs per game, where Rile Baasch guides the team with 17 this season.
 
Kory Longaker has a team-best .394 batting average and has 15 doubles, along with eight home runs and 43 RBIs. Along with leading the team in long balls, Baasch has a team-best 57 RBIs, while sitting second on the team with 14 doubles. Bellevue's pitching staff has posted a combined ERA of 3.98, where Jarrod Molnaa notched a 6-0 record in 10 games and six starts with an ERA of 2.00.
 
Midland comes into the national tournament with an overall record of 32-20. The Warriors posted a 16-10 mark in the Great Plains Athletic Conference and finished as the tournament runner-up after dropping a narrow, 2-1, decision to Northwestern College in the championship game last week.
 
Tanner Bos guides the Warrior offense the season with a .339 batting average in 51 games this season. He is also tied for the team-lead in RBIs with 39. Armando Fajardo has notched a .346 batting average in 33 games this year with a .558 batting average. Midland has a 3.96 ERA, where Billy Brand leads the bullpen with a 4-1 record and four saves, to go along with a 0.62 ERA. Torrey Escamilla leads the Warrior starters with a 2.73 ERA and a 7-3 record.
 
The first day of the tournament beings at 10 a.m. ET on Monday with Midland taking on Bellevue, followed by Campbellsville facing Reinhardt at 1:30 p.m. ET.  The third game of the first day features Science & Arts taking on the winner of Midland and Bellevue at 5 p.m. ET, while the first elimination game will be at 8:30 p.m. ET.
 
The winner of each of the nine opening round tournaments move on to the Avista-NAIA World Series – which begins on May 25 – from Harris Field in Lewiston, Idaho.
 
Campbellsville starts its national tournament run on Monday afternoon at 3 p.m. ET against Reinhardt at Bowling Green Ballpark.
