Maria Coelho combined for 31 kills and 20 digs and
Kaite Johnson finished with 30 kills and 23 digs as the Lady Tigers defeated Indiana Wesleyan and Reinhardt University by 3-1 scored on Friday evening. Freshman
Paige Merrick recorded 82 assists and 20 digs in her first two collegiate games.
Campbellsville improves to 2-0 on the season to begin the
Eric Snyder era of Lady Tiger volleyball.
Campbellsville 3 – Indiana Wesleyan 1 (17-25, 26-24, 25-23, 28-26)
In the final three sets of the match the Lady Tigers finished with 41 kills versus 16 errors for a .208 killing percentage as a team after finishing with a -.069 killing percentage in the first set.
In the second and third sets neither team ever trailed by more than four points at any point in the match, that was a 9-5 lead for Campbellsville in the second set. Both the second and third sets were two point wins for the Lady Tigers.
In the fourth set, trailing 2-1, Indiana Wesleyan jumped out to a 12-6 lead on the Lady Tigers. Five kills by Johnson and Coelho along with a pair of service aces propelled the Lady Tigers on a 14-5 run giving them a 20-17 lead in the fourth set. It would be a back and forth affair from there on out but the Lady Tigers, for a third straight set, came out on top by two points, 28-26.
Campbellsville 3 – Reinhardt University 1 (25-16, 25-16, 20-25, 25-22)
With Reinhardt leading the Lady Tigers by a 14-8 score in the first set kills by Johnson and
Julia Fonseca sparked a 17-2 run leading to the 25-16 margin in the first set. Campbellsville finished with 17 kills as a team in the set.
Both teams stayed within one to two points of each other for the first half of the second set before Campbellsville finished on 10-4 run. The trio of Coelho, Johnson and Fonseca combined for 10 of their 42 total kills of the Reinhardt match during this set.
In the fourth set Reinhardt jumped out to an early 8-2 lead before Campbellsville jumped back into the contest. The Lady Tigers went on an 8-1 run sparked by five kills as well as an ace from
Savannah Moss. The rest of the set went back and forth staying within two points of each other until the final 3-0 run by Campbellsville. Coelho finished Reinhardt off with back-to-back kills to finish the match.
Campbellsville continues at the Mid-South Conference Crossover Challenge tomorrow as it plays Texas Wesleyan at 11 a.m. ET and finishes with Point University at 5 p.m. ET.
