Tiger soccer opens 2018 versus Harris-Stowe State University on Tuesday night

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - The Campbellsville Tigers open their 2018 campaign on Tuesday, August 28 when they play host to the Harris-Stowe State Hornets at 8 p.m.

  • Campbellsville had five players finish with double figure points in 2017 and it returns two of them as Nathan Heath (10 goals, three assists) and Lucas Batistela (seven goals, one assist).
  • The Tigers leading returner in goal is Antonio Barona Bonet who played in five matches for 169:37 minutes and recorded three saves.
  • The Tigers have 10 incoming freshmen on this years roster. All 10 freshmen are international students.
  • Campbellsville has currently won six straight home and season openers.
 
The Preston Era Enters Year 16
 
  • Adam Preston enters year 16 as the head coach at his alma mater.
  • He has posted a 174-112-18 record through his first 15 seasons and the Tigers have currently won 13 or more games in six straight seasons.
  • They are currently on their best three-year stretch from a winning percentage perspective as they have a .805 (48-9-7) as compared to a .785 (49-12-4) from 2013-2015.
  • CU has currently reached the postseason in six consecutive seasons (2012-2017). The have made the NAIA Tournament in 2015 and 2016 and went to the NCCAA Tournament in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017.
  • They also went to the NCCAA Tournament in 2008 and 2010 giving the Tigers post-season trips in eight of coach Preston's 15 complete seasons.

  • Since 2006 this is the first meeting between Campbellsville and
    Harris-Stowe State.
 
Scouting the Hornets
 
  • The Hornets are coming off a 3-13 record in head coach Stefan St. Louis' first season in 2017.
  • As a team they scored 12 goals the entire season.
  • Harris Stowe State does return the players that accounted for 10 of its 12 goals. The team leader from 2017 was Sanchayn Lawrence who scored six of the 12 goals.
  • The Hornets leader in goal was John Jancewicz who played 1003:29 minutes and recorded 87 saves.
 
Tigers Face Three Preseason Top 25 Teams
 
  • The Tigers face three teams that are ranked inside the NAIA
    Preseason Top 25 poll. All three come on the road as they play at No. 18 Central Methodist University, No. 9 Lindsey Wilson College and No. 20 Cumberland University.
  • Campbellsville played Lindsey Wilson and Cumberland a total of three times last season. The Tigers tied Cumberland in the first meeting of the season and fell to them in the MSC Tournament. They will also be looking for revenge on the road against Lindsey Wilson this season.
 
Mid-South Conference Preseason Poll
 
  • The Campbellsville University men's soccer program has been picked third in the 2018 Mid-South Conference Preseason Coaches Poll.
  • Lindsey Wilson College was picked to win the conference receiving six of the eight first place votes and 48 total voting points. Cumberland University was picked to finish second with 40 points as it narrowly edged out the Tigers who finished with 38 points and one first place vote.
  • Life University had the remaining first place vote and came in fourth with 31 total points. University of the Cumberlands (28) was fifth, Georgetown College (17) placed sixth, University of Pikeville (13) came in seventh and Shawnee State University (9) rounded out the standings.
  • The Tigers tied with Cumberland in 2017 as each team finished 5-1-1 in Mid-South Conference play, Campbellsville finished 14-5-2 overall. This will be season number 16 for the Tigers under coach Adam Preston, he has posted a 174-112-18 record in his first 15 seasons.
 
Tigers Look To Knock Off Blue Raiders
 
  • Lindsey Wilson and Campbellsville have combined to win the last three MSC regular season championships. Lindsey Wilson has won the last two while the Tigers won the 2015 regular season title.
  • Campbellsville did claim the 2016 MSC Tournament championship after it defeated Life by an 8-0 score, Cumberland by a 1-0 score and then tied Lindsey Wilson, 0-0 and claimed the title winning PKs, 5-3.
