Webber International scores 24 second-quarter points and the Tigers fall to 0-2 after 45-9 loss

The Tigers start the year 0-2 and will head into the open date on the 2018 schedule before meeting Cumberlands

BABSON PARK, Fla. — Webber International University scored 24 points in the second quarter and the Tigers turned the ball over four times on Saturday en route to a 45-9 loss.

After Webber International (2-0) took its first drive right down the field in seven plays to lead 7-0, the Tigers came right back on a nine-play 75-yard drive to get on the board. The only bright spot for freshman QB Tala Sufia came in that second drive for the Tigers as Sufia punched the ball into the end zone on a one-yard sneak up the middle for his first-career score. He finished passing 3-for-7 for 64 yards on the day.

After the Tigers cut the lead to one, 7-6, the CU defense held strong on Webber's ensuing possession. The Warriors moved the ball all the way inside the five-yard line, but CU's defense forced a field goal. Richard Pettus nailed it from 20 yards out to give Webber a 10-6 advantage.

Then the turnover bug bit really hard. On CU's next drive, Jordan Duff took an end-around and coughed up the ball allowing Webber's Travonte Haynie to scoop and score from 23 yards. Campbellsville could never recover.

The Warriors scored a total of 24 points in the second quarter to lead 31-9 at halftime.

Jeremy Hinds saw action at quarterback after Sufia was pulled in the second quarter. He finished throwing for 105 yards on 13-of-21 and two interceptions.

A few bright spots on the day for CU was a blocked punt by senior Brayden Russell and a diving interception by Bjay Pelt – his eighth career pick.

Ormoni Zanders led CU's rushing attached with 44 yards on 11 carries, while Hinds also rushed 11 times for 32 yards.

Duff had a big day on the receiving side with seven catches for 80 yards – the third-highest mark in his career.

Defensively, the Tigers were led by Marcus McCants' 11 tackles.

Campbellsville's 0-2 start is the first since 2016 and the as the 19th-ranked Tigers head into an off week next Saturday.

Campbellsville gets back in action on Saturday, Sept. 15 as the Tigers travel to University of the Cumberlands for a 7 p.m. ET kickoff in Williamsburg.
