Saint Xavier hands Tiger soccer its first loss of the season on Friday night

CHICAGO — Saint Xavier scored in the 33rdminute and the Panthers held on after a hour weather delay to hand Campbellsville men's soccer its first loss of the year on Friday night, 1-0. 
 
The Tigers (1-1) absolutely dominated the possession for majority of the game, totaling 17 shots compared to only three for the Panthers. 
 
The lone score of the night came from the foot of Danny Lopez. He found the back of the net in the 33rdminute and that was all Saint Xavier (1-2) needed. 
 
Also, SXU's Ricardo Aldape was handed a pair of yellow cards in a span of three minutes in the first half and was ejected in the 42ndforcing Saint Xavier to play a man down the final 48 minutes. 
 
With 3:48 left in the first half, both teams had to wait out a weather delay of one hour and 21 minutes due to thunderstorms. After play resumed, the Tigers had 13 of their 17 shots in the final 48 minutes. 
 
CU's had multiple opportunities in a span of three minutes in the 66thand 69th minute. Haylen West had a shot blocked at 65:11 and Troy Walters rebounded but his shot was also denied.
 
In the 69thminute, Sergio Cristaldo's kick was blocked and Tom Edge was there but his attempt went high. 
 
The Tigers had two more shots in the final few minutes but Cristaldo's and Edge's attempts were saved by Shane Badertscher. 
 
Bardertscher (1-2) finished the night with five saves, while Campbellsville's Luis Ramirez (1-1) did not record a save. The lone shot on goal for Saint Xavier was the score by Lopez. 
 
The Tigers get back in action next week as Union College and Kentucky Christian travel to Campbellsville's Finley Stadium. CU hosts Union on Wednesday, Sept. 5 at 8 p.m. while the Knights come to town on Friday, Sept. 7 with kickoff at 7 p.m.
