Indiana Wesleyan's Golden Goal in the 93rd minute upends Tiger soccer in 1-0 loss

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Indiana Wesleyan's Felipe Mendonca finished upper-90 in the 93rd minute and the Wildcats upended Campbellsville men's soccer on Saturday evening, 1-0.

The Tigers dominated the pitch and possession for the most part but couldn't find the back of the net. Campbellsville (2-4) fired 21 total shots with seven on goal. The Wildcats (6-1) had only two of their eight shots on goal but the Golden Goal came in the first overtime period – three minutes into the extra time.

Campbellsville had its first opportunity just a minute into the extra period, but Nathaniel Fonda was unable to capitalize off a Nathan Heath corner kick. That was the last chance CU had in the overtime frame.

The Tigers came out of the gates early in the first period, totaling 11 shots and only allowing two. But it evened out a little more in the second, 9-5, in CU's favor.

Overall, Fonda led CU with six shots – two on goal – while Haylen West had four and Connor Grant and Sergio Cristaldo each had three.

In goal, Owen Stott had a fairly easy game until the overtime period. He finished with just one save on the two shots on goal. His counterpart, Naoya Fugono finished the night with seven saves.

The Tigers fall now to 2-4 on the season and will hit the road for two straight games. CU travels to Bethel College on Friday, Sept. 21 with kickoff at 6 p.m. ET.
